About Us

Exergy3 is a Scottish cleantech company developing and commercialising a high-temperature Thermal Energy Storage (TES) system for industrial decarbonisation. Our technology converts surplus electricity into stored heat, delivered as process steam or hot air directly into industrial plant, displacing natural gas and reducing industrial carbon emissions without requiring customers to redesign their processes.

We're building ambitious technology and moving quickly - and we need more people to know about it.

We're hiring a Marketing & Communications Manager to be the driving force behind our growth engine: someone who can own and build our brand internally and externally, who can spot a story, sharpen the message, and get it in front of the customers, partners, journalists, and industry audiences who matter, without waiting for a perfect brief.

SALARY RANGE: £45,000 - £55,000

The Role

This isn't a caretaker role.

You'll work directly with our technical, commercial, and leadership teams to understand what we're building, why it matters, and how to get it into the market, building our commercial presence and directly fuelling the pipeline that powers our scale-up. We have plenty to say. Your job is to make sure the market – and future clients - hears it.

We're at a point where what we communicate and how quickly we communicate it matters. We need someone who can keep pace.

If you're looking for a role where everything is already built and somebody else executes the ideas, this probably isn't it. If you want to get close to innovative minds, find the story, and build momentum around it, read on.

What You'll Own

  • Turn Our Technology into Stories People Listen To

Get close to our product and the people building it. Find the stories, ideas, and proof points that matter and turn them into sharp, credible content: customer stories, thought leadership, website and product content, social content, sales collateral, newsletters, campaigns, and announcements. You'll move comfortably between technical detail and a clear commercial message.

  • Develop market research initiatives

Drive efforts to identify and profile our target customer base, uncover their underlying needs and pain points, and analyse the key factors that influence their purchasing decisions - translating these insights into actionable recommendations that inform product, marketing and sales strategy.

  • Build Our Visibility

Actively find opportunities to raise our profile rather than waiting for them to arrive: media opportunities, industry conversations, awards, speaking slots, events, and partnerships. Develop relationships with the journalists and publications that matter and bring in external PR support where it adds value.

  • Run Campaigns That Create Momentum

Take business priorities and turn them into focused marketing activity across content, digital, social, email, PR, and events. Keep campaigns moving, measure what's working, kill what isn't, and double down on what gets results.

  • Enhance Our Digital Presence

Keep our website and social channels active, relevant, and improving, reflecting the quality and ambition of the company. Own the content calendar, join the industry conversations that matter, and make sure we're communicating consistently rather than disappearing between major announcements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Who We're Looking For

You'll have around 3–5 years' experience in marketing, communications, content, or a similar role. Technology, engineering, energy, climate tech, deep tech, or B2B experience would be useful, but we're more interested in what you can do.

You can write. You can take something complicated and make it clear without dumbing it down. You're curious enough about technology to sit with an engineer, ask good questions, and keep asking until you understand what's actually interesting. You know the difference between activity and impact. And when you see something that needs doing, you get on with it.

You'll Need To Be

  • Bi-lingual in English and German: role can be based in Edinburgh or Munich.
  • A confident writer: you turn rough ideas and technical conversations into crisp, compelling content.
  • Technically curious: you don't need to be an engineer, but you genuinely want to understand how our technology works and why it's different.
  • Commercially minded: you understand that good marketing ultimately needs to help the company grow, even if that means telling senior managers they are wrong, or engineering staff to prioritise delivery of data for your use.
  • Fast: you make good decisions without every piece of information and keep multiple projects moving at once.
  • Proactive: you don't wait for someone to hand you a content calendar: you find the opportunities and make them happen.
  • Comfortable with ownership: if you've agreed to deliver something, you drive it through to completion.
  • Happy getting your hands dirty: you'll write, publish, organise, chase, edit, analyse, and deliver, not just brief agencies.

Experience We'd Value

  • 3–5 years in marketing, communications, content, or a related role.
  • B2B technology or another complex/technical sector; bonus points if you've put AI to work already.
  • Excellent copywriting, storytelling, content and campaign creation.
  • LinkedIn and digital marketing, SEO, website/content management.
  • PR and media relations, events and conferences (virtual and in-person).
  • Customer case studies and product marketing.
  • Marketing analytics and CRM tools.
  • Experience in a start-up or fast-growth company.

You don't need to tick every box. We care far more about energy, judgement, curiosity, and evidence that you can make things happen.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first few weeks, you'll understand our technology well enough to explain why it matters. You'll know who our customers, competitors, and markets are. You'll have built relationships across our technical and commercial teams and created a steady flow of strong stories and content - and you'll already be increasing the company's visibility.

Over time, we want to see:

  • More of the right people knowing who we are.
  • Stronger positioning and messaging.
  • A consistent flow of high-quality content.
  • Greater visibility in our target industries.
  • Stronger customer stories and proof points.
  • Marketing activity directly supporting commercial priorities.
  • Significantly more value from launches, events, and company announcements.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • Stock options
  • 34 days annual leave (UK) inc. public holidays
  • Company pension
  • Hybrid working - 2-3 days in office
  • 35 hour working week
  • Compressed hours
  • Up to 15 days of remote work from abroad each year
  • Additional benefits to be disclosed at interview stage

OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES

If these principles resonate with you, we look forward to receiving your application.

  • Respect for the task

What we do is challenging! What we do is significant—for humanity, for our customers, and for one another. Someone has to do it, and we embrace the challenge.

  • Speak plainly

No sugar-coating, no dodging the issue. We speak openly, share the full picture, and collaborate based on genuine trust. Honesty isn’t just a value; it is the foundation for better decisions.

  • Take ownership

We don’t wait to be told what to do. We identify what needs to be done and take personal responsibility for seeing it through to completion.

  • Efficient and precise

We don’t get distracted. We focus on the details that matter. We channel our energy into critical tasks to quickly turn ambitions into results.

  • Mistakes happen!

Occasional mistakes are normal. When they occur, we learn from them together and move forward.

  • Enjoy the work

We take our work seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We celebrate successes and support one another—because great teams are built on trust and genuine care.
