Marketing Controller – Wholesale & Digital Marketing

The location of the role is London (onsite). The position is permanent. The salary on offer is £70k (open to discussion).

This role is working for a leading UK wholesale and retail organisation.

Role Summary:

We are currently looking to appoint a Marketing Controller – Wholesale & Digital Marketing to act as a senior leader within the marketing function, supporting the Head of Marketing in driving transformation, improving capability and delivering stronger commercial outcomes.

This role will effectively operate as a senior partner within the Marketing leadership team, taking ownership of key strategic projects, improving marketing performance and introducing more proactive, insight-led ways of working. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and evolving the marketing function, developing team capability and ensuring activity is aligned to business objectives, supplier strategies and measurable commercial outcomes.

Working across Wholesale Marketing, Digital Marketing, Trading, Commercial and Supplier Partnerships, this is an opportunity to help shape the future direction of a large-scale marketing function, improving planning, performance measurement, ROI and overall effectiveness.

Key accountabilities of the role

  • Act as a senior partner to the Head of Marketing, taking ownership of key initiatives and helping drive marketing transformation.
  • Review existing marketing structures, processes and capabilities, identifying opportunities to improve effectiveness and support future business growth.
  • Coach, develop and empower marketing teams, building stronger capability, accountability and ways of working.
  • Assess marketing activity and performance, ensuring campaigns are commercially focused and deliver measurable return on investment.
  • Review existing campaigns and initiatives to identify opportunities to optimise performance, improve efficiency and stop activity that does not deliver value.
  • Lead the development of stronger marketing planning processes, introducing more proactive and strategic ways of working.
  • Establish improved cross-functional collaboration across Marketing, Trading, Commercial, Digital, Operations and Supplier teams.
  • Take ownership of major marketing projects, including campaign optimisation, CRM initiatives, supplier activation strategy and marketing performance improvement.
  • Lead wholesale marketing activity across multiple channels, ensuring alignment with trading priorities, promotional plans and supplier agreements.
  • Develop stronger supplier marketing programmes, maximising supplier investment and improving commercial return from marketing activity.
  • Improve measurement frameworks to demonstrate campaign effectiveness, supplier ROI and wider business impact.
  • Provide senior oversight of digital marketing activity, working closely with Digital teams to ensure alignment between customer engagement, ecommerce performance and wider marketing objectives.
  • Support the development of integrated campaigns across offline, digital, trade communication and supplier activation channels.
  • Challenge existing ways of working and introduce innovative, forward-thinking approaches to marketing delivery.

  • Significant senior marketing experience within Retail, Wholesale, FMCG or another large consumer-facing organisation.
  • Proven experience leading marketing transformation, improving capability and introducing new ways of working.
  • Strong commercial mindset with experience linking marketing activity directly to revenue, performance and ROI.
  • Experience managing supplier-funded marketing, trade marketing or commercial partnership activity.
  • Strong understanding of integrated marketing campaigns across multiple channels.
  • Experience reviewing and optimising marketing performance through insight, measurement and data.
  • Proven leadership experience, including coaching and developing teams to improve capability and performance.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior colleagues across Marketing, Trading, Commercial and Operations.
  • Strategic thinker who can balance long-term transformation with hands-on delivery when required.
  • Ability to challenge existing processes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and influencing skills.
  • Experience within Grocery, Retail, Wholesale or FMCG would be advantageous.
