Location: London (occasional travel, not a core part of the role)

About The Salad Project
The Salad Project is building the best salad bar in the world. In five years we have grown to 15 stores across London, we serve over 12,000 salads a day, we have raised £10M from a world-class group of investors, and we won UberEats Restaurant of the Year. We have been named one of the FEBE Top Growing Companies in the UK and built a customer following that borders on fanatical.
We are not building a nice London salad chain. Salad bars are not a new idea, they have existed for decades in canteens, supermarkets and food courts, and almost nobody has ever tried to make one truly great. That is exactly the opportunity. We are not inventing a category, we are taking one that has been overlooked for forty years and building the best version of it the world has seen.
We open in Paris in September 2026, our first move into Europe, with aggressive plans to expand across the continent and beyond. This is a rare opportunity to lead the marketing of a brand with genuine global ambition at the exact moment it starts to scale internationally.
The Role
We are looking for a Marketing Director to own the full marketing function, lead a growing team across multiple markets, and drive both brand and commercial growth. You will sit at the leadership table, set the strategy, and be equally comfortable shaping bold brand moves and holding the team accountable to hard numbers.
We are a challenger and we intend to stay one. We want someone who thinks like a challenger too: someone who competes on ideas, speed and distinctiveness, and whose instinct is to change the rules of the category rather than follow them.
This role comes with real autonomy. The founders have led marketing to this point, and we are looking for someone to take full ownership of it from us. You will have the mandate, the budget and the freedom to make the calls, and we will back you to drive genuine impact rather than ask you to seek permission for it.
What You Will Own
- Brand partnerships: A major part of this role, though not something you will deliver single-handedly. You will set the ambition and direction for the partnerships that elevate The Salad Project into a cultural leader in Europe: collaborations with people and with businesses that make the brand feel far bigger than its footprint. We have already had real success in this area and we want to go considerably further. We are not interested in logo swaps and discount codes. We want the partnerships people talk about, chosen with taste, pursued with serious ambition, and built into a repeatable programme rather than a run of one-offs.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Brand-owned campaigns: Own the ambition and the creative bar for our own campaigns. We want brand-owned marketing that punches far above our size, full of creativity and vision, work that makes people assume we are a much bigger business than we are. You will set the standard, commission and direct the work, and hold the team to ideas genuinely worth talking about.
-
Brand and content: Set the brand vision, positioning and tone, and hold the team accountable for delivering it consistently across every touchpoint and every market. Our Head of Brand owns the brand day to day and will report to you. Your job is to set the direction, sharpen their thinking, unblock them and hold the standard, not to take the work off them. You will direct the social, content, PR and storytelling agenda rather than produce it.
-
Growth and performance: Own the commercial targets across the full acquisition and retention funnel: paid media, CRM, loyalty and app. Set the strategy, agree the budget, and hold your team and agencies accountable for measurable outcomes on customer growth, frequency and revenue. Build the reporting rhythm that keeps ROI and channel performance visible at leadership level.
-
New site launches: Own the go-to-market strategy for every new opening and carry accountability for footfall from day one. You will direct the team through each launch and codify what works into a playbook the business can run without you in the room.
-
International expansion: Own the marketing strategy for Paris and the European rollout that follows. You will build and manage local marketing teams in each region, working hand in hand with our Head of Brand so that brand and marketing operate as one function rather than two. Creating that unity is a core part of the brief. You will decide what adapts locally and what stays fixed globally, and build the systems that let any market launch to the same standard.
-
Team leadership: Lead a team of five: Head of Brand, Graphic Designer, Head of Marketing UK, Events Coordinator and French Marketing Manager, with more to follow. Set the vision, own the budget, structure the team for scale, and develop the people in it. Your job is to build a function that performs without you doing the work yourself.
What We Are Looking For
-
Experience: A substantial track record of leading and managing a marketing team, with clear evidence of building brand and delivering measurable commercial growth. Ideally built inside iconic challenger brands.
-
Sector background: Consumer brands, ideally in fitness, wellness, fashion or tech. Hospitality is very welcome too. What matters most is that you have built a consumer brand people genuinely care about.

-
Challenger mindset: You think like a challenger, not an incumbent. You compete on ideas, speed and distinctiveness, and you are drawn to brands punching above their weight rather than defending a position. We want someone whose default question is how we change the category, not how we keep pace with it.
-
Marketing leadership: Proven ability to lead teams across both brand and performance. Comfortable owning a P&L, working with data, and reporting to a board or founders.
-
Multi-market Experience: Launching or scaling across multiple locations, ideally internationally. Comfortable managing teams across geographies.
-
European outlook: At home across the continent, fluent in its cultures and consumers, and excited to build a brand across them. Fluent English is all we need, no other languages required.
-
Brand instinct: Without ego A genuine feel for culture, lifestyle and how great brands live in people's everyday lives. Just as important, the maturity to lead a talented Head of Brand rather than do their job for them.
-
Founder mindset: Entrepreneurial, comfortable with ambiguity, and built for a fast-moving, high-ambition, founder-led business. You lead through your team rather than doing the work yourself, but you know the detail well enough that nothing gets past you.
