Marketing Director - Surgical Division

We are currently hiring a Marketing Director for our Surgical division in Alcon, Camberley. As the Head of Marketing you are accountable for leading a team of specialist Product Managers responsible for the development and implementation of all brand plans across the full Surgical product portfolio. This role is to develop, establish and execute short and long-term marketing strategies for the Surgical portfolio across the UK & Ireland to deliver agreed growth targets, market share expansion, and commercial performance objectives. This role has significant impact on the Surgical business through influence on portfolio strategy, growth initiatives, launch readiness, customer engagement activities, and overall commercial performance across the region. You will have full financial responsibility of the UK & Ireland Surgical marketing budget and the responsibility for portfolio revenue growth, market share performance, promotional investment, and return on marketing spend.

We are seeking a highly skilled marketing professional with demonstrated experience in strategic marketing, portfolio management, product lifecycle planning, and commercial execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute short and long-term business and marketing plans for the Surgical portfolio, driving top-line growth, market share expansion, and portfolio profitability.
  • Provide ongoing market insights and strategic recommendations to enhance business performance, customer engagement, and competitive positioning while supporting the successful introduction and adoption of new surgical technologies and solutions.
  • Execute marketing programs and campaigns aligned with portfolio and brand strategy, conducting regular competitor reviews and market assessments to identify opportunities, mitigate risks, and maintain market leadership.
  • Support pre-launch planning, launch execution, and post-launch performance evaluation, while developing customer-focused messaging and tactical plans tailored to priority customer segments.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with Sales, Strategic Accounts, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Market Access, and Commercial Excellence teams to ensure alignment and execution excellence.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and other key stakeholders, delivering strong return on investment from marketing and promotional activities.
  • Develop effective working relationships with local, regional, and global stakeholders across Alcon and contribute insights that support continuous business improvement, innovation, and commercial success.

What You Can Bring to Alcon

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Commerce, Business, Marketing, or a related discipline, a MBA or postgraduate qualification in Business, Marketing or related field would be preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in marketing, product management, or commercial roles.
  • Proven capability in strategic marketing and portfolio management.
  • Experience developing and executing successful marketing plans and product launches.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using customer, market, and performance data to drive decision-making.
  • Proven success in building and maintaining KOL and customer relationships.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results within tight timelines.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and build effective partnerships across Sales, Strategic Accounts, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and regional marketing teams.
  • Ability to analyse market trends, customer insights, and competitive dynamics to drive business performance and growth.
  • Excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience within medical devices, ophthalmology, healthcare, or specialty pharmaceuticals.
  • Experience working in a matrixed multinational organisation.
  • Knowledge of surgical products and the ophthalmic market.
