Marketing Executive
In fact, we’re looking for 2 Executives, one to be based at Balaena Birkenhead and one at Balaena Tyne.
You won’t just create content; you’ll be telling the story of what we’re building.
We’re looking for Executives with ideas, energy and ambition who see an opportunity where others see a photo, a project where others see a progress update, and a great story where others see another day at work so if you’re creative, commercially aware and happiest when you’re out where the action is, this could be the just what you’re looking for.
It’s a hands-on marketing role in an ambitious, growing maritime group. You’ll be close to the work, close to the team and responsible for turning what happens across our business into marketing that gets us noticed. We’re not looking for someone to simply manage an account or a content calendar, we want someone who will get out there and find our stories!
Who are we?
Balaena is one of the UK’s most ambitious maritime groups, with operations spanning Gibraltar, Padstow, Tyne, Birkenhead and Falmouth.
We’re growing, changing and raising our ambitions — and we need marketing that reflects that.
You’ll join a marketing team with a clear commercial purpose: helping Balaena build its reputation, strengthen relationships and create opportunities for growth.
As the dedicated marketing presence within your local facility, you’ll work alongside the people delivering the projects — capturing the expertise, innovation and personality that make Balaena different.
What will you be doing?
Quite simply, you’ll make sure the great work happening here doesn’t go unnoticed.
You’ll:
- Find the stories. Get out and talk to people, understand what’s happening and identify the projects, milestones and achievements that are worth telling the world about.
- Create content people want to see, shoot photography and video of vessels, projects, people and events — and turn it into content that stops the scroll.
- As our local social presence, you’ll plan, create and schedule engaging content across LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and other digital channels.
- Tell compelling stories. Write project updates, news stories, employee features and customer case studies that bring our work to life.
- Supporting campaigns that matter, you’ll help to deliver product and service launches, sector campaigns, recruitment activity, brand rollouts and customer communications.
- To help win business, you’ll work closely with Sales and Business Development to create presentations, case studies, bid materials, digital assets and exhibition collateral that support commercial conversations.
- Making PR happen, you’ll spot the stories that deserve attention and work with PR to turn them into opportunities for Balaena.
- Being there for project milestones, events, customer visits and key activity across the yard you’ll capture the moments that matter.
- You’ll keep our digital presence moving with website updates, news, project stories and other digital content.
- To help build the brand, you’ll work with the Head of Marketing and Head of Brand making sure every piece of content reflects Balaena consistently and professionally.
- You’ll have plenty of variety. One day you could be photographing a vessel in the yard; the next you could be editing a video, writing a customer story or helping prepare for an exhibition.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience fit

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
That’s the point. We want marketing to be close to the business — not sitting on the sidelines.
What do we want to see in you?
We want someone who gets marketing, gets people and gets stuff done. You’ll know your way around a Reel. From spotting a good story and filming it, to editing short-form video and getting it live, you understand how to create content for social first. Experience with Photoshop, Lightroom or other editing software would be great. And if you already know your way around a drone, even better - if not, but you’re keen to learn, we can help you develop those skills.

Why join us?
Because this isn’t a role where your work disappears into a corporate machine.
You’ll see it. You’ll own it. And people will notice it.
You’ll be embedded in a growing business, working alongside operational teams and project managers to understand the work at its source — then turning it into marketing that supports reputation, engagement and commercial growth.
You’ll have the opportunity to bring ideas to the table, challenge how things are done and make a genuine contribution to how Balaena presents itself to customers, partners, employees and the wider market.
We’re ambitious about where Balaena is going.
We want someone ambitious about the role they can play in getting us there.
If you’re ready to get closer to the action, create work you’re proud of and help tell the next chapter of the Balaena story — we want to hear from you.
