About MK Gallery

MK Gallery is Milton Keynes' leading public gallery, presenting a programme of contemporary visual arts alongside cinema, live performance, learning and participation activities. As a registered charity, we aim to make art accessible to as wide an audience as possible.

Project Overview

MK Gallery is delivering a major digital transformation project to improve our website, CRM and ticketing system. The project will create a better integrated digital ecosystem that improves the visitor experience, streamlines internal workflows, and supports both the Gallery's charitable and commercial objectives. As part of this work, we are looking for an experienced freelancer to carry out a comprehensive audit of our existing website content and provide clear recommendations to support migration to our new website.

Project Details

  • Duration: 15 days across 8 weeks from August 2026
  • Working pattern: One day per week minimum, with flexibility to allocate the remaining days according to project requirements. This can be done remotely.
  • Fee: £200 per day
  • Reporting to: Head of Marketing and Audience Development

Scope of Work

The freelancer will review the Gallery's existing website content and provide a structured audit that supports content migration and future content strategy. The work will include:

  • Completing a full inventory of existing website content.
  • Assessing content quality, relevance and performance.
  • Identifying content suitable for migration to the new website.
  • Identifying outdated, duplicated, low-value or underperforming content that should be merged, rewritten or removed.
  • Reviewing available analytics data to help inform recommendations, including user engagement and content performance.
  • Considering accessibility, readability and SEO throughout the audit.
  • Working with the Marketing team and digital partners to agree recommendations.

Project Deliverables

By the end of the project, we expect the freelancer to provide:

  • A complete content inventory of the existing website.
  • A prioritised content audit with recommendations for each page or content type.
  • A migration plan identifying content to migrate, archive, rewrite, merge or remove.
  • Recommendations to improve content quality, structure, accessibility and search performance.
  • A handover session with the Marketing team to present findings and answer questions.

Experience We're Looking For

We're interested in hearing from freelancers who can demonstrate experience in website content audits, content strategy or digital content management. Ideally, you will have experience of:

  • Content strategy, digital editing or SEO copywriting.
  • Managing and auditing website content within the WordPress CMS.
  • Content inventories, SEO optimisation and readability analysis.
  • Auditing content against WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA accessibility standards.
  • Using GA4 or similar analytics platforms to inform content decisions.
  • Basic understanding of HTML and CSS.

Experience working within the arts and cultural sector would be an advantage but is not essential.
