At Gridcog

We're on a mission to accelerate investment in the clean energy transition. We're a SaaS start-up of energy nerds building the best project modelling software around, used on everything from co-located solar and storage to microgrids. Our clients, many of the world's leading Developers, IPPs, Consultants and Energy Majors, are putting hundreds of millions into the transition, and we help them direct that money into the right projects: the ones that make both commercial and environmental sense.

We're a team of 40 across London, Berlin, Madrid and Australia, and we've recently raised our Series A.

The Role

We're looking for a Marketing Lead to join our team. Maybe you've been the number 2 to a strong marketing leader, or owned parts of the function, and now you're ready to step up and lead marketing as a whole. Either way, you're a brilliant marketer who still loves doing the work.

You won't be building from scratch. We've built a strong brand in the UK and Australia through thought leadership, and you'll lead a small team consisting of our Marketing Manager - Content & Events (plus their Brand & Content Executive) and our Growth Marketing Manager. Your job is to take what we've built and make it bigger, bolder and more commercial as we scale into Europe.

A big part of that is messaging. Our product is technical and we haven't fully nailed how we talk about it, so we're looking for a strategic marketer who can sharpen our story for every audience - buyers, users and internally.

Energy marketing tends to be boring but that's not us, and it's not our vision. We don't want the playbook you ran at your last company; we're looking for someone who'll try something different. But this freedom also comes with accountability - you'll own marketing's results, from qualified leads to the pipeline sales close. You’ll take risks, measure everything, and change course fast when something isn't working.

How the Role Works

This is a player-coach role. Expect to spend a large portion of your time doing the work yourself: writing, briefing, editing, building campaigns and shipping, alongside developing your team and setting direction. We do things in-house rather than through agencies, including our messaging, which needs to evolve as fast as our product and customer base, and we use AI to punch above our weight.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You'll report to our CCO, who will back you, coach you and expect you to challenge them and the wider Exec, with the judgement to know when to push and when to commit.

We also work together in our London hub three days a week.

What You'll Do

  • Own Gridcog's global marketing strategy, plan, budget and performance, with a focus on generating qualified top-of-funnel leads for sales.
  • Own positioning and messaging: our north star, how we're different and better than the alternatives, how we speak to both users and economic buyers, and how the whole company tells the same story. This includes how we communicate our existing and new product capabilities and being clear and consistent in how we communicate on the value we bring to our customers.
  • Make our brand distinctive and consistent. We've been liberal with our brand guidelines to date and want to tighten them up.
  • Take the brand we've built in the UK and Australia into Europe, working with our commercial teams in Berlin and Madrid.
  • Turn our website into an impactful marketing and lead generation asset.
  • Support your team to make our content, events, thought leadership and growth engine (paid, SEO and conversion) sharper and more commercial, using our data, modelling and customer logos to make the case.
  • Work closely with sales to align campaigns, events and content with target accounts and revenue targets.

To Be Successful in This Role You'll Have

  • Solid B2B marketing experience, ideally in early-stage SaaS, including time as a senior manager or number 2 where you owned major parts of the function, or standout results in an agency environment.
  • A real passion for messaging, and the skill to back it up. You know how to dig into technical material, find what actually matters to the customer, and turn it into a clear value message that lands. You've done this for a complex product before, for audiences ranging from hands-on users to senior decision-makers.
  • Demonstrated success building lead generation that sales teams actually value.
  • A commercial mindset: you know your numbers inside out, and you use them to decide what to double down on and what to drop.
  • Multi-channel experience and an appetite for trialling new things. You take smart risks: when something doesn't land, you learn from it and adapt.
  • Excellent creative judgement and the ability to turn complex ideas into bold, credible marketing. We'd love to see examples!
  • Some experience managing people, and a real interest in developing a high performing team.
  • An AI-native way of working: you use AI tools every day to do more with less, and you know when to override them.
