Help shape the voice of university athletics across London and the South East

Lead LUCA’s marketing, develop engaging campaigns and support a small team while building valuable experience in sports communications and brand development.

What difference will you make?

Marketing plays a vital role in helping LUCA connect students with athletics opportunities across London and the South East.

  • The Marketing Lead will help more students discover and participate in LUCA competitions, training opportunities and community initiatives.
  • By communicating clearly and consistently, the volunteer will make it easier for athletes and university clubs to understand what is available, how they can take part and why they should get involved.
  • The role will also help LUCA celebrate the achievements of student athletes, volunteers, officials and member clubs.
  • Stronger event coverage and storytelling will allow us to recognise their contributions and demonstrate the breadth and inclusivity of university athletics.
  • Internally, the Marketing Lead will improve how LUCA plans, coordinates and evaluates its communications.
  • Developing seasonal campaigns, supporting Marketing Officers and reviewing campaign performance will help us move from reactive promotion towards a more strategic and sustainable approach.
  • A stronger and more professional public presence will also support LUCA’s relationships with universities, athletics organisations, commercial partners and potential funders.
  • This will help us build credibility, attract support and create more opportunities for the students and clubs we serve.
  • Ultimately, the volunteer’s work will help LUCA increase participation, strengthen its community and provide more visible, inclusive and professionally delivered athletics opportunities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You should be a confident communicator with strong written skills and an ability to adapt messages for different audiences. You will need to be comfortable planning campaigns, coordinating deadlines and ensuring that content is delivered consistently across several channels.

The most important qualities are:

  • Strong organisational and project-management skills.
  • The ability to develop plans and turn ideas into deliverable campaigns.
  • Clear, engaging written and verbal communication.
  • Confidence using social media and other digital platforms.
  • A collaborative and supportive leadership style.
  • Reliability, initiative and the ability to work independently.
  • Good judgement and the ability to identify potential issues early.
  • A commitment to inclusive and accessible communication.

You do not need to be an expert in every aspect of marketing. We are particularly interested in someone who is willing to learn, can bring structure to our communications activity and is comfortable supporting other volunteers.

Experience in marketing, communications, social media, digital content or campaign delivery would be valuable. Experience managing projects or coordinating a small team would also be helpful.

Knowledge of sports marketing, university sport, student societies, athletics or the voluntary sector would be an advantage, but it is not essential. An interest in brand development, audience engagement or growing participation would also be welcome.

The role would suit someone looking to apply or develop their experience in strategic marketing, leadership and sports communications while contributing to a growing charitable organisation.

Working with the Operations Committee and reporting to the Operations Lead and Marketing and Communications Trustee, you will turn LUCA’s priorities into clear, engaging and well-coordinated campaigns. You will also manage and support a small team of volunteer Marketing Officers.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Developing seasonal marketing plans for LUCA competitions and initiatives.
  • Coordinating pre-event promotion and post-event coverage.
  • Maintaining and developing LUCA’s website and social media channels.
  • Ensuring consistent use of LUCA’s brand, tone and visual identity.
  • Coordinating promotional graphics, campaign messages and shareable materials for member clubs.
  • Making sure LUCA’s communications are inclusive, accessible and welcoming.
  • Supporting and providing direction to Marketing Officers.
  • Building relationships with external partners, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Monitoring engagement, reach and the impact of campaigns.
  • Anticipating potential problems with campaign delivery and keeping relevant colleagues informed.
  • Producing short post-campaign reports with results, learning and recommendations.

This role would suit someone who can combine strategic thinking with practical delivery. You should be organised, confident communicating with others and comfortable coordinating several activities and deadlines.

Experience of social media, digital communications or collaborative project work is important. Experience in sports marketing, student societies, brand development or team management would be helpful, but it is not essential.

The role is flexible, largely remote and requires an average commitment of approximately two to four hours per week. The usual term of office is two years and may be renewed.
