Marketing Manager
Stockport
£45,000-£55,000 + Bonus
We are working with an established and successful B2B finance business in Stockport to recruit a Marketing Manager to take full ownership of its marketing activity.
This is a standalone, hands-on marketing role offering genuine autonomy and the opportunity to shape how an established SME approaches marketing.
Working directly with the directors and alongside the sales team, you'll be responsible for developing the marketing plan and, importantly, making it happen.
The role is deliberately broad, covering digital marketing, traditional media, content, video, events, sales collateral and communications.
You won't be expected to be an expert in every discipline. The business is happy to invest in external agencies and specialist third parties where appropriate. What we're looking for is someone who can see the bigger picture, identify what needs doing and take responsibility for getting it delivered.
The Role
You'll take ownership of marketing across the business, from strategy and planning through to hands-on delivery.
- Developing and owning the company's marketing plan and budget.
- Planning and delivering campaigns to increase brand awareness, generate opportunities and support business growth.
- Managing digital activity across the website, social media, email and other relevant channels.
- Creating and coordinating engaging content for both digital and traditional marketing.
- Developing high-quality sales brochures, presentations, case studies and other collateral.
- Managing press, PR and traditional advertising opportunities.
- Developing video content and coordinating external production where required.
- Planning and supporting exhibitions, events and other face-to-face marketing activity.
- Working closely with the sales team to develop campaigns and materials that support business development.
- Ensuring consistency of brand, messaging and tone of voice across the business.
- Measuring marketing performance and using the results to continually improve activity and investment.
- Selecting, briefing and managing external agencies, freelancers and specialist suppliers where appropriate.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
About You
We're looking for a broad, commercially minded marketer rather than a narrow specialist.
You'll be comfortable operating in an SME environment where priorities can change, people work closely together and good ideas don't need to pass through multiple layers of management before they happen.
You'll be equally comfortable discussing strategy with the directors and rolling your sleeves up to deliver a campaign, improve a presentation, organise an event or create a piece of content.
You'll Ideally Bring
- Broad experience across digital and traditional marketing.
- Strong written communication and content skills.
- An understanding of B2B marketing and how marketing can support a sales function.
- Good project management and organisational skills.
- Commercial awareness and an ability to measure the effectiveness of marketing activity.
- Confidence working independently and taking responsibility for decisions.
- The ability to manage external agencies and suppliers effectively.
- Creativity, curiosity and the confidence to introduce new ideas.

Your very own career expert that helps elevate your application to the next level.
Previous experience in financial services or another B2B environment would be advantageous but isn't essential.
More important is your ability to take ownership.
The Opportunity
For the right person, this is a chance to make a marketing function your own.
You'll have direct access to the company's decision-makers, a close relationship with the sales team and the freedom to influence where marketing investment is made.
The business recognises that one person cannot be a specialist in every area of modern marketing, so you'll have the ability to outsource specialist work to trusted third parties where it makes sense.
If you're currently working in a larger marketing team and feel ready to step up and take ownership, or you're already operating independently within an SME and want greater autonomy, we'd be keen to hear from you.
