Marketing Manager

Lead StraySafe’s marketing activity and team, developing campaigns and strategies to grow awareness and engagement. Promote our mission to rescue and rehome cats, increase adoptions, recruit volunteers and generate vital support for our work.

What difference will you make?

The Marketing Manager will play an important role in growing StraySafe Rescue’s reach, strengthening our public profile and helping us build the support needed to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome more stray and abandoned cats.

As a small, volunteer-run charity, our ability to help cats depends heavily on reaching the right people. Effective marketing helps us find adopters and fosterers, recruit volunteers, generate donations and build a community of supporters who can help sustain our work.

Having a dedicated Marketing Manager will give greater direction and structure to our marketing activity. They will help us move beyond individual posts and campaigns towards a more coordinated strategy, ensuring our communications are consistent, purposeful and aligned with the charity’s wider priorities.

By overseeing the promotion of cats available for adoption, the Marketing Manager will help us reach more potential adopters and give greater visibility to cats who may otherwise be overlooked, including longer-stay and more complex cases. Successful marketing can help cats find suitable homes sooner, freeing foster spaces and allowing us to help more cats in need.

The role will also strengthen our fundraising and volunteer recruitment. By developing and coordinating campaigns around appeals, fundraising activity, fostering and volunteering, the Marketing Manager will help us reach new audiences and turn engagement into meaningful support for the charity.

Monitoring performance and engagement will allow us to better understand what works, where our audiences are coming from and how we can improve. This will help StraySafe make more informed decisions about where to focus our limited time and resources.

The Marketing Manager will also provide leadership for our marketing assistants, helping to coordinate activity, develop ideas and create a more sustainable marketing function that does not rely on individual members of the wider team finding time to promote our work.

Ultimately, the role will help StraySafe become more visible, organised and sustainable. By increasing awareness, adoptions, volunteer involvement and financial support, the Marketing Manager will directly contribute to our ability to help more cats across Greater Manchester and continue developing the charity for the future.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a reliable, motivated and creative individual who is passionate about animal welfare and has the experience and confidence to lead StraySafe Rescue’s marketing activity.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The ideal volunteer will have at least 3 years of relevant experience in marketing, communications, digital marketing, social media or a related field. This could include professional, charity or substantial voluntary experience.

You should have experience planning and delivering marketing activity, with the ability to develop ideas into effective campaigns. Experience managing social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok is important, including content planning, audience engagement and understanding how different types of content perform.

Strong written communication skills are essential. You should be confident producing and reviewing engaging social media content, campaigns, promotional materials and other communications, while adapting your tone appropriately for different audiences and sometimes sensitive situations.

We are looking for someone who can think strategically as well as creatively. You should be able to identify opportunities to increase our reach, engagement and awareness, develop campaign ideas and make recommendations to the wider team and trustees about how our marketing can develop.

Leadership and teamwork skills are important. The Marketing Manager will help lead and coordinate our marketing volunteers, provide guidance and feedback, allocate activity where appropriate and work collaboratively with fosterers, fundraisers, trustees and other members of the charity.

You should be organised and able to manage competing priorities, plan activity in advance and ensure campaigns and communications are delivered consistently and on time. As this is a volunteer-led organisation, you should also be comfortable working independently and taking ownership of your area.

An understanding of marketing performance and analytics would be beneficial. You should ideally be comfortable reviewing engagement, reach and other relevant measures and using these insights to improve future activity.

Experience with tools such as Canva, Meta Business Suite or other social media and marketing platforms would be advantageous, although experience with every platform is not essential.

Previous experience within a charity, animal welfare organisation or volunteer-led environment would be beneficial but is not essential. More important is an understanding that charity marketing needs to balance awareness, fundraising, volunteer recruitment, adoption promotion and sensitive storytelling.

Above all, we are looking for someone who genuinely shares our commitment to helping stray and abandoned cats and who wants to use their marketing experience to make a meaningful difference.

Remote

What will you be doing?

The Marketing Manager will lead the day-to-day delivery and development of StraySafe Rescue’s marketing and communications, helping us grow awareness, reach new audiences and increase engagement and support for our work.

You will lead and support our marketing volunteers, helping to coordinate activity, allocate tasks and ensure our communications remain consistent, engaging and aligned with StraySafe’s values and priorities.

The role will take ownership of our social media presence, including Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok and LinkedIn, overseeing content planning, campaigns and scheduling. You will work with fosterers and other volunteers to source high-quality, up-to-date photos, videos and stories from cats in our care and turn these into engaging content.

A key focus will be promoting cats available for adoption, developing campaigns and regular features that increase their visibility, particularly for cats who may be harder to rehome or have been waiting longer for their furever home.

You will also work alongside our fundraising team to support appeals, raffles, partnerships, events and other fundraising activity, developing marketing campaigns that maximise their reach and encourage people to get involved.

The Marketing Manager will monitor engagement and performance across our channels, identify what is working and use these insights to continually improve our content and approach. You may also oversee updates to our website to ensure information, campaigns and images remain accurate and current.

We want someone who will bring ideas to the role. You will have the opportunity to develop new campaigns, content themes and strategies to grow our audience, increase volunteer applications, encourage adoptions and build greater awareness of StraySafe across Greater Manchester.

You will work closely with our trustees, proposing marketing ideas and strategies and helping shape how StraySafe communicates and grows.

Overall, the Marketing Manager will play a key role in telling the stories of the cats we help, building our profile and turning awareness into meaningful action, whether that is adopting, fostering, volunteering, fundraising or supporting our work.
