Marketing Manager
About Automation Consultants
Automation Consultants (AC) is a UK consultancy in Agile, DevOps, and AI, with a fast-growing AI practice. We are an Atlassian Platinum Solution Partner with more than 20 years of expertise, and we provide advice, hands-on project delivery, and managed services to customers ranging from blue-chip companies and government departments to start-ups.
About the Role
You will be our Marketing Manager and the most senior marketing person in the services business, reporting directly to the CEO and owning marketing for AC’s services business (consultancy and managed services): strategy, campaigns, content, events, budget, and a small team.
The role has a high level of ownership: you will set direction, not just execute someone else’s plan, and you will have the freedom to try things, drop what does not work, and build on what does. Both the subject matter and the methods prominently include AI, the force that is changing the face of technology and the economy today. AC is building an AI practice, and marketing that credibly is a job for someone who actually uses the tools, understands what they can and cannot do, and can explain it clearly to a skeptical technical buyer.
What You Will Do
- Set the direction
- Shape AC’s marketing strategy alongside the CEO, aligned with the business plan, and turn it into multi-channel campaigns that win new customers and keep existing ones.
- Own the marketing budget and decide where it goes.
- Make AC’s voice worth reading
- Run the content engine: opinion pieces, webinars, industry data, partnerships with other software companies, and social.
- Tell the story of AC’s AI practice in a way that is honest, specific, and interesting to technical and business audiences alike.
- Use AI as a working tool
- Use Claude Cowork (or a similar AI agent) every day to research, draft, analyze, and automate routine work.
- Teach AI our brand voice, using style guides, example content, and prompt libraries, so that output sounds like AC rather than like everyone else.
- Build small agentic workflows for repetitive work such as performance digests, campaign briefs, and social drafts.
- Keep up with new models, tools, and AI search behavior, and bring what matters back to the business. We will provide the tools, training, and time to experiment.
- Lead and connect
- Lead and develop a small team of marketing specialists. If you have not managed people before, we will support you in learning to.
- Manage agencies, partners, and media contacts, from brief to delivery.
- Work closely with Sales to build reporting that shows what is working, then act on what the numbers say.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Your Profile
You can write, you can think, and you are more interested in what AI makes possible than in how it has always been done. You have a few years of marketing behind you, so you know the fundamentals: how campaigns are planned, what good content looks like, how to read the numbers. What you may not have had is the room to use that knowledge as you see fit. You would rather run something than assist on it.
Essential
- A strong academic record: a good degree (2:1 or above), in any subject. Humanities, languages, and social sciences are as welcome as business or marketing.
- Hands-on marketing experience, in-house, agency, or freelance, in any sector, so that you are familiar with campaign planning, content, digital channels, and measurement. You do not need to have held the title “Manager,” and you do not need to have marketed technology before.
- Excellent writing: clear, precise, and persuasive, with the ability to make complex technical subjects understandable.
- Curiosity about AI and daily use of AI tools in your own work, going beyond simple chat. We will ask you to show us.
- Hands-on experience delivering campaigns across digital and social channels.
- The confidence to take ownership, make decisions, and be accountable for results, with evidence of things you have made happen without being asked.
Helpful, but not required
- Experience of B2B or technology marketing.
- Experience of managing a budget or managing people.
- Experience with AI tooling beyond chat, such as Claude Cowork, n8n, or Zapier, or evidence of building something with AI on your own initiative.
- Familiarity with the Atlassian or AWS ecosystems.
- Ideas you have not yet been allowed to try. Bring them.

What You Will Get
- Real ownership. You report to the CEO, who will set goals with you and give you honest feedback, and then get out of the way. Marketing is yours to shape.
- Room to innovate. AI and automation are changing how marketing is done. We would rather you experimented with them here than read about other people doing it. Try things, measure them, keep what works.
- A front-row seat on AI. AC is building an AI practice, and you will work alongside the consultants who deliver it. Few marketing roles offer a closer view of the technology.
- Tools and training. Access to leading AI tools, a dedicated training plan, and a personal training budget.
- A defined path. The role is designed to grow into Head of Marketing as the team and the business grow. We will agree what that looks like with you in the first months.
- A good place to work. AC is recognized as a UK Best Workplace, with around 60 people across the group, so you will know everyone, and your work will be visible.
