Role Overview
This role sits within the Markets Operations In-Business Risk Management (IBRM) team, the first line risk management function responsible for strengthening risk management practices, governance, and controls across Markets Operations. As part of the Risk Solutions & Remediation (RSR) Payments Controls & Governance team, you will support the oversight and continuous enhancement of controls related to payments, movement of funds, and movement of assets, helping to ensure a safe, scalable, and compliant operating environment.
Working closely with global Operations, Risk, Technology, and Program teams, you will contribute to governance, reporting, control monitoring, risk assessments, and the delivery of strategic remediation initiatives arising from business, audit, and regulatory requirements. The role offers broad exposure across Markets Operations and focuses on key payment control frameworks, including Manual Payment Initiation and Processing (MPIP), Approval and Limits Frameworks (ALF), and Large Anomalous Payments Controls (LAPC), while partnering with stakeholders to identify control enhancements, manage risk, and drive sustainable solutions.
What you'll be doing
- Support the governance and oversight for global movement of funds/ assets related controls, contributing to the implementation of strategic goals for the Markets and Citi Payment controls operating environment. This includes assisting with controls for Approval Limits Framework (ALF), Manual Payment Processing and Initiation (MPIP) and Large Anomalous Payments Control (LAPC).
- Take responsibility for the compilation of governance forum agendas, preparation of materials relating to payment metrics and controls.
- Capture quarterly control and governance data gathering and sign off for control and MCA attestations.
- Contribute to the monitoring of in-scope applications for payment/movement of funds/ assets activities including their control landscape and help determine risk-based prioritization for any ensuing uplift requirements or opportunities.
- Assess requests for deviations and exceptions to movement of funds/ assets related policy and procedure guidelines and updates required in relation to Processing and Fraud Risk compliance and Manager Control Assessment (MCA) activities.
- Collaborate with Operations Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to define key business requirements for identifying payment/movement of funds/assets flows. This involves identifying and documenting critical data elements within processing systems to enable the establishment of rules-based controls for the management of large and anomalous payments.
- Analyse Operational Risk Events associated with payments, movement of funds and movement of assets to track thematic issues and determine control landscape enhancements.
- Manage individual control and governance responsibilities, including Issue and CAP milestone tracking, task and actions management, coordination, and execution of plans within required timelines and to stakeholder quality expectations, with a focus on payment control initiatives.
- Address business ad-hoc queries and requirements related to payment controls and governance
- Foster and maintain effective working relationships with business and technology stakeholders, actively participating in working groups, steering committees, and workshops as required for payment governance initiatives.
- Partner with Fraud and Processing Risk Operational Risk Management (2nd Line) on key risk issues to determine risk impact.
- Identify risks related to payment processes, supporting their management to resolution or escalating them appropriately.
- Exercise independent judgment and autonomy in day-to-day tasks, operating with a moderate level of direct supervision.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail when making judgments and recommendations based on the analysis of factual information pertaining to payment transactions and controls.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citi, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

What we'll need from you
- Proven track record as a Business Analyst or Project Manager within the Financial Services/Investment Banking industry, ideally with exposure to payments or risk & control functions.
- Knowledge of Markets Operations businesses/ functions is required. Knowledge & understanding of payments/ movement of funds workflows and controls beneficial.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and take ownership of various parts of a project or initiative.
- Able to lead conference calls and produce meeting agendas, materials, and minutes.
- Must be extremely organized, motivated and a self-starter.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task is key.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to clearly document findings and put together proposals for solutions.
- Excellent Excel, Powerpoint and process mapping skillsets required.
- Data management skills including use of AI tools
- Ability to work in fast paced environment under tight contractual deadlines.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate to a range of audiences and facilitate discussions.
- Willingness to ask questions, challenge the process and seek out answers.
