3 Months Contract with a Local Authority
Umbrella - £17.23 per hour - Umbrella
Job Purpose
As a Markets Operative, you will support the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and presentation of market sites across the borough. This is a hands-on outdoor role involving market set-up, site maintenance, cleaning, and customer interaction.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
- Set up and dismantle market stalls.
- Move and position bins across market sites.
- Carry out litter picking and site cleaning duties.
- Maintain clean and safe market environments.
- Support the upkeep of market infrastructure.
- Clean stalls, compounds, bins, and communal areas.
- Carry out basic weeding and site maintenance.
- Spread grit and rock salt during adverse weather conditions.
- Assist traders and members of the public.
- Report issues to Team Leaders and Managers.
- Support the smooth running of market operations.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Essential Experience Required
- Previous manual labour or physical work experience.
- Experience working outdoors.
- Good customer service skills.
- Ability to undertake physically demanding duties.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Reliable and flexible approach to work.
- Experience using basic hand tools and equipment.
Essential Qualifications Required
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Own Vehicle.
- Business Insurance.
- Right to Work in the UK.

Additional Information to Note
- Working Hours: 18 hours per week.
- Working Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
- Early starts between 04:00am and 06:00am.
- Wednesday shifts may run until approximately 16:00 - 17:00 depending on operational requirements.
- Weekly rota provided.
- Location: Markets across the Walsall Borough area.
- Potential for extension.
- Must be aged 18+.
- In-person interview required.
- Supplier Submission Deadline: 11th November 2026.
- References required before commencement.
- We work on bi-weekly payment schedule.
