Area of Interest: Trading; Sales and Investments

Business Area: Corporate and Institutional Banking

Short Description

Build skills in sales and trading at the heart of global financial markets.

About the Business Area

Corporate and Institutional Banking helps some of the world’s largest companies grow and succeed by offering investment and financial solutions. Working across markets, sectors and borders, you’ll help deliver the insight, connectivity and support that enable clients to navigate change and unlock new opportunities.

Who You Are

You’re analytical, curious and energised by fast-moving environments. You want to understand how global markets work — not just in theory, but in real time. You could be a great fit if you enjoy asking smart questions, interpreting data and spotting details others might miss. You communicate clearly, share your thinking with confidence and stay focused when the pressure is on. You’re adaptable, open to new ideas and motivated to keep learning because markets don’t stand still. You also work well with others and build trusted relationships as you grow. If you want to explore a career where pace, precision and problem-solving all matter, this could be a strong fit.

What You'll Do

You’ll rotate across Sales and Trading desks and see how both sides work together to support clients in fast-moving markets. You could analyse market trends, collect and present data, contribute to reports, support client pitches and help maintain trading and sales records. You’ll work with Sales and Trading teams across asset classes such as foreign exchange, rates, commodities, equities and securities financing, and learn how they manage risk and profitability while responding to client needs. You may also build tools or models using Excel, VBA or Python, and use platforms like Bloomberg, Reuters and HSBC tools. It’s practical exposure to market-facing work, with real insight into whether Sales or Trading feels like the right fit. The internship also includes structured assessments aligned to securing a graduate role, giving you chances to demonstrate how you think, collaborate and deliver, through tasks such as project work, presentations, interviews or skills-based evaluations.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What You'll Learn

You’ll build your foundation through a week of technical and behavioural training, then keep learning through live exposure to Sales and Trading. As the internship progresses, you’ll deepen your understanding of financial products, market dynamics, risk and profitability, while seeing how different desks support clients in different ways. You’ll also strengthen your technical confidence with tools and platforms used across global markets, alongside professional skills such as communication, resilience and judgement under pressure. The programme is designed to help you understand not just how the work is done, but where your strengths fit best. By the end, you’ll have a clearer sense of whether Sales or Trading feels like the right path for you.
