Job Description

Purpose of the Role

To drive innovation, meet customer needs, and ensure the bank's long-term success and competitive edge.

Accountabilities

  • Execution of Market Research: Understand customer needs, pain points, and emerging trends to support the analysis of profitability, market size, and positioning for new products compared to existing offerings, and to identify opportunities for diversification to gain a competitive advantage.
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work with stakeholders across departments and teams including marketing, sales, technology, engineers, designers, etc., to generate innovative and feasible product ideas and prototypes for testing aligned with customer needs and strategic goals.
  • Development of Concepts and Specifications: Define features, functionalities, target market, user interface, technical specifications, and potential revenue models of new products.
  • Evaluation of Feasibility and Compliance: Assess the technical feasibility, legal compliance, and potential risks associated with the development and launch of the new product.
  • Monitoring Market Trends: Analyze feedback from internal employees and target customers through prototypes, user testing sessions, and beta programs to identify areas for improvement to refine the product before launch.
  • Management of Launch Plans: Develop comprehensive launch plans and technical deployments for products that establish rollout timelines, marketing strategies, training initiatives, and communication channels to promote the launch of new products effectively.
  • Monitoring Key Metrics: Assess the product's performance against set goals by monitoring key metrics such as adoption rates, usage patterns, customer satisfaction, and revenue generation.

Director Expectations

  • Strategic Contributions: Manage a business function, providing significant input to function-wide strategic initiatives. Contribute to and influence policy and procedures for the function and plan, manage, and consult on multiple complex and critical strategic projects, which may be business-wide.
  • Team Leadership: For managers, lead a large team or sub-function, leading other people managers and embedding a performance culture aligned to the values of the business. For individual contributors, lead organization-wide projects and act as a deep technical expert and thought leader, identifying new ways of working and collaborating cross-functionally.
  • Training and Guidance: Train, guide, and coach less experienced specialists and provide information affecting long-term profits, organizational risks, and strategic decisions.
  • Expert Advice: Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function-wide strategic initiatives.
  • Resourcing and Budgeting: Manage, coordinate, and enable resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Compliance and Policy Management: Escalate breaches of policies/procedures appropriately. Foster and guide compliance, ensure regulations are observed, and that relevant processes are in place to facilitate adherence.
  • External Influence: Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division/Group to achieve the overall business objectives. Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector/functional knowledge, and insight into external market developments/initiatives.
  • Analytical Skills: Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in often complex/sensitive situations.
  • Decision-Making: Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
  • Stakeholder Influence: Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Communication: Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/business divisions. Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.
  • Leadership Behaviors: Demonstrate a clear set of leadership behaviors to create an environment for colleagues to thrive and deliver to a consistently excellent standard. The four LEAD behaviors are:

  • Lead the development of next-generation marketing, personalization, and decisioning capabilities that deliver tailored, timely, and relevant experiences across channels.

  • Build strong partnerships with senior business, technology, and operations stakeholders to align priorities, manage dependencies, and deliver sustainable outcomes across the wider PBWM ecosystem.
  • Champion modern product and agile ways of working, fostering a culture of experimentation, evidence-based decision-making, continuous improvement, and accountability for outcomes.

Desired Skills/Experience

  • Proven experience leading large-scale digital, marketing, customer engagement, or personalization transformations, with accountability for defining strategy, securing investment, and delivering measurable business outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of customer data, analytics, AI, and personalization capabilities, with a track record of translating insight into relevant, timely, and impactful client engagement across multiple channels.
  • Experience operating within complex, regulated environments and partnering across Product, Technology, Data, Operations, and Front Office teams to deliver end-to-end client and commercial outcomes.
  • Experience within wealth management, private banking, institutional, B2B, or relationship-led businesses is highly desirable. Candidates should understand how engagement, decisioning, and personalization differ in high-value, adviser-supported environments compared to purely digital, high-volume retail B2C models.
  • Standout candidates will have successfully defined and executed multi-year digital transformation strategies, built and led high-performing product organizations, and demonstrated the ability to identify emerging industry, data, and AI trends and convert them into scalable competitive advantage.
