The Opportunity
OCU is delivering major power infrastructure projects across substations, cabling, civils, and overhead line networks, and effective material management is critical to successful project delivery. As a Project Material Controller, you'll play a central role in ensuring operational teams have the right materials, equipment, and resources available when they need them, helping projects run safely, efficiently, and on programme.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced operational environment where organisation, attention to detail, and effective coordination make a real difference. You'll work closely with project teams, suppliers, and site operations to support some of the UK's most significant power infrastructure programmes.
What You'll Do
- Manage the receipt, storage, issue, and reconciliation of materials across multiple projects and workstreams.
- Maintain accurate stock records and ensure full traceability of materials from receipt through to project allocation.
- Coordinate deliveries, collections, and logistics activities with suppliers and operational teams.
- Monitor stock levels and identify shortages, risks, or long lead-time items that could impact project delivery.
- Maintain safe, organised yard facilities that comply with operational, safety, and industry requirements.
- Control plant, tools, and equipment, ensuring items are inspected, calibrated, and available for deployment.
- Produce accurate material records, reports, and supporting documentation for operational and compliance purposes.
- Support project mobilisation, demobilisation, and emergency response activities when required.

Essential
What You'll Bring
- Experience in materials control, stores management, logistics, warehouse operations, or a similar coordination role.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate records.
- Experience using stock control, inventory management, or materials tracking systems.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with operational teams and suppliers.
- Understanding of safe material handling and storage practices.
- Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable
- Experience within utilities, power, construction, engineering, or infrastructure sectors.
- Bonus if you have knowledge of substation, overhead line, civils, or cabling materials.
- It would be great if you have an understanding of CDM, NRSWA, or other industry compliance requirements.
- It would be great if you've worked with plant, fleet, calibration, or equipment management processes.
- Forklift, lifting operations, or other relevant operational certifications would be advantageous.
