The Vacancy
We are looking for a highly organised and detail-oriented Material Controller to join our Purchasing team in Whitstable on a six month fixed term contract. Reporting to the Procurement Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the effective planning and control of manufactured and purchased materials, helping to maximise the efficient use of resources while minimising disruption to production and customer delivery requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planner or materials professional who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and enjoys working collaboratively across supply chain, purchasing and production teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage component requirements and communicate demand to suppliers in a timely and professional manner.
- Review and action MRP-generated planning messages and adjust supplier schedules accordingly.
- Maintain and manage supplier order books to ensure appropriate material coverage and inventory levels.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure stock remains aligned with departmental objectives.
- Update and maintain ERP system data relevant to material planning and procurement activities.
- Work closely with Supply Chain, Purchasing and Production teams to support business requirements.
- Identify and communicate potential supply chain risks and constraints.
- Provide monthly forecasts of expected supplier deliveries.
- Optimise external logistics costs through efficient transportation planning.
- Proactively investigate and resolve supplier invoice queries.
- Identify, challenge and improve existing planning processes and procedures.
- Monitor, identify and reduce excess or obsolete inventory.
- Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with company policies, procedures and quality standards.
- Support additional business activities and projects as reasonably required.

What We Are Looking For
We are seeking a proactive individual who can confidently manage priorities, communicate effectively with suppliers and internal stakeholders, and maintain accuracy in a busy planning environment.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:

- A continuous improvement mindset with the ability to challenge existing processes and drive efficiencies.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in a planning, materials control or supply chain role.
- Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong inventory management and supplier coordination skills.
- Proven ability to analyse information and make effective planning decisions.
- Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience within the aerospace industry or a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of Infor ERP systems.
- Understanding of supply chain, procurement and inventory optimisation principles.
- Experience identifying and implementing process improvements within planning or materials management functions.
