Job Overview

Company: Eurofins PSS Insourcing Solutions® Location: Bristol Myers Squibb Moreton facility, Wirral Role: Material Scientist (Eurofins Managed PSS Scientist) Type: Full-time, permanent (35 hrs/week, flexible within 07:00–19:00)

This position is employed directly by Eurofins PSS, providing on-site support within the Bristol Myers Squibb facility. It is not an employee role with Bristol Myers Squibb, and the company’s recruitment policies do not apply here.


Role Responsibilities

As a Material Scientist, you will excel in the full cycle of pharmaceutical testing, ensuring accurate and expedient results. Core responsibilities include:

  • Conduct routine and non-routine analytical testing (physical and analytical methods) for:

    • Pharmaceutical raw materials
    • Drug substances
    • Finished products
  • Supervise workflows for receipt, storage, dispensing, and disposal of development samples in the Development Store per operational standards.

  • Drive technological advancements by supporting the introduction and implementing new equipment across your functional area while maintaining SOP consistency.

  • Collaborate proactively with project teams, providing:

    • Protocol feedback and summaries of test data
    • Initial interpretations of results within agreed timelines

Required Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Degree in one of the following:
    • Pharmacy
    • Pharmaceutical Science
    • Materials Science
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Chemistry
  • Must demonstrate strong foundational knowledge of chemistry.

Experience & Expertise Required:

  • Hands-on lab experience in pharmaceutical analysis within a development laboratory or equivalent.
  • Proficiency using central analytical techniques and relevant equipment, such as:
    • HPLC/GC (high-performance liquid chromatography/gas chromatography)
    • Karl Fischer titration
    • Dissolution methods
    • UV spectroscopy
  • In-depth understanding of chromatographic methods and troubleshooting.
  • Strong capacity to adhere to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and coach colleagues on compliance procedures.

Soft Skills & Attributes

  • Comprehensive knowledge of either the drug development lifecycle, or product manufacturing lifecycle.
  • Ability to switch priorities rapidly, demonstrating adaptability within a dynamic work environment.
  • Exceptional technical and non-technical communication skills, advanced particularly through presentations and documentation.
  • Independent-minded, proactive, and problem-solving mindset with a disposition for fostering continuous improvement.
