STS Aviation Services is hiring a Materials Lead in Manchester, United Kingdom, to support aircraft supply chain, procurement, and stock management activities within our MRO operations.
This role is responsible for ensuring aircraft spares, materials, and services are available when required while maintaining accurate shortage information across active projects. The Materials Lead will work closely with Planning, Engineering, Supply Chain teams, and customers to manage requirements, resolve shortages, and support the timely delivery of aircraft maintenance programs.
Position Overview
The Materials Lead is a key member of the Supply Chain team and is responsible for the effective procurement and stock management of aircraft spares and services.
This position takes ownership of material shortages, maintains accurate project shortage information within internal systems, and regularly communicates with customers regarding material requirements and status.
The role also supports wider logistics and procurement activities when required.

Stock and Purchasing Responsibilities
- Manage and control stock requests using warehouse management systems
- Take ownership of material shortages across assigned projects
- Monitor stock levels and organize stock transfers between STS locations when required
- Identify materials requiring purchase
- Purchase materials required to resolve shortages
- Liaise with approved suppliers to expedite materials in a timely and cost-effective manner
- Expedite purchase orders to support business requirements
- Track shortages accurately and communicate status to the wider business
- Negotiate material requirements with approved suppliers
- Work closely with Supply Chain Management and Quality teams regarding approved supplier management
- Maintain accurate shortage information within internal systems
- Provide detailed handover briefs between shifts
- Liaise with other departments to resolve material and supply chain issues
- Provide cover for Materials Leads at other STS locations when required
- Purchase non-aircraft materials and services when required

Customer Liaison Responsibilities
- Meet with customers regularly as required
- Represent Supply Chain professionally at all times
- Record external customer stock requirements
- Ensure shortage information accurately reflects customer material requirements
- Maintain clear communication with customers outside scheduled meetings
- Provide detailed handovers covering customer supply chain activities
- Ensure customer requirements are captured and actioned
Supply Chain Support Responsibilities
- Support logistics activities when required
- Support procurement activities for other STS locations when required
- Work across the wider Supply Chain function based on operational requirements

Qualifications And Experience
- Significant demonstrable experience in supply chain operations
- Strong negotiation skills
- Full UK driving licence
- Experience working within a commercial environment
- Good understanding of aviation procurement
- Knowledge of aviation supply chain operations and key principles
- Previous experience within a UK or European independent MRO
- Experience delivering high levels of service to internal and external customers
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Strong understanding of PROMRO
- Experience using PROMRO
- Continuous improvement mindset
- Ability to influence perceptions and opinions
