Materials Management Officer

A self-motivated individual with a flexible approach and great customer service skills is required to undertake the role of Materials Management Officer in this busy NHS Hospital Trust, based at Bedford Hospital.

About the Role

Working within a small team & reporting to the Supply Chain Supervisor, you will be required to manage inventory by counting stock levels of medical consumables using an electronic data capture system, ordering products to maintain agreed levels, and re-stock these items at the point of use. You will be visiting multiple wards and departments on a rota basis over each week.

You will work closely with departmental budget holders and therefore in addition to being computer literate and physically fit, the post holder must be a good communicator with a high degree of customer focus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage inventory by counting stock levels of medical consumables using an electronic data capture system.
  • Order products to maintain agreed levels and re-stock these items at the point of use.
  • Visit multiple wards and departments on a rota basis over each week.
  • Work closely with departmental budget holders.
  • Use electronic handsets to perform stock counts.
  • Process orders using NHS ordering platforms.
  • Put away delivered orders for each of your areas, ensuring good practice such as stock rotation and reporting of missing goods/discrepancies.
  • Communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders using telephone, Microsoft Office, and face to face.
  • Cover for colleagues in times of leave/sickness.
  • Undertake regular reviews with departmental managers to ensure value for money and reduced wastage.
  • Support departmental goals such as standardisation of products to achieve savings and efficiencies.
