To prepare, prime and spray paint rail power packs and associated components to the highest quality standards, ensuring all work complies with customer specifications, engineering drawings, environmental regulations and health & safety requirements. The role supports the overhaul and refurbishment of diesel engine power packs for the rail industry.
What you will be doing:
- Prepare rail power packs, engines and associated components for painting by cleaning, degreasing, sanding and masking.
- Apply primers, undercoats and topcoats using conventional and airless spray equipment.
- Ensure paint finishes meet customer, quality and cosmetic standards.
- Mix paints and coatings accurately in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications.
- Carry out minor surface repairs and filler work where required.
- Inspect completed work for defects and rectify any imperfections before release.
- Maintain paint booths, spray equipment and associated tooling in a clean and serviceable condition.
- Follow production schedules to meet delivery deadlines.
- Read and interpret, work instructions and paint specifications.
- Complete all production and quality documentation accurately.
- Comply with COSHH regulations and safe handling of paints, thinners and hazardous materials.
- Wear and maintain appropriate PPE at all times.
- Support continuous improvement activities and maintain high housekeeping standards using 5S principles.

Position Qualifications
- Previous industrial spray painting experience, preferably within rail, heavy engineering, aerospace or automotive.
- Knowledge of two-pack epoxy and polyurethane paint systems.
- Experience using air-assisted, airless or conventional spray equipment.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to achieving high-quality finishes.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
- Good understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements.
Preferred requirements:
- Experience painting diesel engines or rail power packs.
- Knowledge of overhaul or refurbishment environments.
- Awareness of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement techniques.
