Applied Mathematics Benchmark Specialist

Type: Hourly Contract

Compensation: $61–$77/hour

Location: Remote

About the Opportunity

This opportunity is for expert mathematicians and applied mathematics researchers to contribute to an advanced AI research and evaluation initiative with Mercor. You will author and verify rigorous academic assessment content across specialized mathematics domains, helping establish gold-standard benchmarks used to evaluate and advance AI capabilities. The work focuses on deep conceptual understanding, mathematical rigor, formal reasoning, and precise problem formulation.

Responsibilities

  • Author original, challenging multiple-choice mathematics questions that assess deep conceptual understanding rather than surface-level recall.
  • Review and verify pre-written mathematics questions for accuracy, clarity, completeness, rigor, and solvability.
  • Ensure each question is unambiguous, self-contained, and precisely defined, with all necessary information included.
  • Assign difficulty ratings as Medium, Hard, or Expert based on the mathematical knowledge required.
  • Provide one correct answer and nine plausible but subtly incorrect alternatives designed to challenge advanced solvers.
  • Develop clear, step-by-step mathematical solutions with concise intermediate reasoning in Markdown format.
  • Provide 1–5 reputable academic references for each question, including peer-reviewed publications and university repositories.
  • Identify issues involving clarity, precision, completeness, or solvability during verification and clearly document any edits.
  • Apply rigorous mathematical standards to ensure assessment content supports high-quality AI benchmarking.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
