The Bridge Academy – Maths Teacher Maternity Cover
The Bridge Academy – an exceptional, high-performing and inclusive secondary school committed to ensuring every student succeeds at a good university or equivalent, thrives in their chosen field and lives a great life – is seeking a Maths Teacher to provide maternity cover from 9 November 2026 to 11 July 2027. The successful candidate will join a strong and diverse team of specialists committed to evidence-informed practice, centralised planning and workload balance.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering consistently good, stimulating and challenging Maths lessons that meet the needs of all learners.
- Ensuring students are engaged with and enjoy Maths.
- Raising the attainment of students and promoting Maths across the Academy.
- Working with a range of stakeholders, including parents, other schools and local and national partners.
- Planning, delivering and developing the Maths curriculum and enrichment activities.
- Working with the Head of Learning Area and other subject areas to ensure that Maths contributes to the ethos of the Academy and to promote the profile and status of the subject.
- Engaging with Academy curriculum initiatives, particularly those of Maths, including KS2–3 transition and cross-curricular planning.
- Maintaining high expectations of students’ behaviour and achievement, and establishing excellent relationships with students.
- Monitoring and recording the progress of students using Assessment for Learning strategies and in accordance with Academy assessment policies.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge and understanding of developments within the subject specialism.
- Working under the direction of the Head of Learning Area to develop the curriculum.
- Contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of the policies and practice of the Academy, including those designed to promote equality of opportunity.
- Contributing to the wider life of the Academy, including planning and delivering enrichment activities such as field and residential trips and extra-curricular clubs.
- Contributing to and building partnerships with parents, community groups and local organisations, and supporting the development of the Academy’s Maths provision.
- Ensuring the Maths rooms are purposeful, stimulating and safe learning environments.
- Undertaking other duties appropriate to the post, as may be reasonably required from time to time by the Head of Learning Area or Senior Leadership Team.

Skills and Experience
- Qualified Teacher Status.
- Degree or equivalent qualification.
- Relevant specialist qualifications and experience, with the ability to teach up to Key Stage 4.
- Excellent classroom practitioner.
- Commitment to improving practice through reflection, appropriate professional development and openness to advice and feedback.
- Evidence of continuing professional development or relevant research.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of curriculum requirements and developments within the subject specialism.
- Commitment to the principles and policies of equality.
- Secure knowledge and understanding of a range of Assessment for Learning strategies.
- Secure knowledge and understanding of how to make effective personalised provision for all students, including those for whom English is an additional language and students who have special educational needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of child protection and safeguarding procedures, including the implications of the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice.
- Up-to-date knowledge of current educational developments in Maths relevant to whole-school issues.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate students and colleagues to recognise and respond to the diverse needs of learners.
- Ability to design opportunities for learners to develop their literacy, ICT and thinking skills within the subject area.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and manage time effectively, with energy, enthusiasm, determination and an insistence on high standards.

Salary: MPS/UPS £40,317 - £62,496 per year.
Location: South Hackney, London, E2 8BA.
Contract: Full-time, fixed-term maternity cover, 9 November 2026 – 11 July 2027.
