Job Summary
Bede’s is seeking two proactive and enthusiastic Matrons at our thriving Senior School, located in the picturesque East Sussex countryside.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone to be responsible for the care, supervision and well-being of pupils; to be responsible for the day-to-day running of our Boarding House routines and systems and maintain the good presentation of the House. They will need to have great communication & record keeping skills, keep up to date with safeguarding policies and procedures and provide an empathetic presence in the house, being sensitive to those who are having difficulties coping with school life.
Most of all, we are looking for someone who has experience in working with children and adolescents. To be a great team player and have relevant first aid & mental health first aid qualifications, if not a holder of certificates in these areas, to be willing to acquire one at Bede’s request. A clean driving licence and access to a vehicle for all shifts.
These are Permanent roles, working 30 hours a week, term time only plus 3 weeks (36 weeks worked in total). Due to the nature of the role, we will require the individual to be on a 3 week rolling rota for weekends and evenings.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
