Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Livestock Manager to oversee the care, well-being, and productivity of our farm animals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal husbandry, a passion for promoting animal welfare, and the ability to manage and lead a team of livestock caretakers. The Livestock Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring the health, productivity, and humane treatment of all farm animals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily care of farm animals, including feeding, watering, and monitoring overall health.
  • Implement and maintain a comprehensive animal health program, including vaccination schedules and disease prevention measures.
  • Manage and coordinate breeding programs to optimize herd/flock genetics and reproductive performance.
  • Oversee mating schedules, artificial insemination, and pregnancy monitoring.
  • Plan and implement herd/flock management practices, including rotational grazing and pasture management.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate stocking densities for optimal animal welfare.
  • Develop and implement balanced and nutritionally appropriate feeding programs.
  • Monitor feed quality, availability, and ensure proper storage.
  • Ensure clean and safe living conditions for animals by overseeing the maintenance of barns, shelters, and other livestock facilities.
  • Coordinate repairs and improvements as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of individual animal health, breeding history, and production performance.
  • Prepare reports on herd/flock performance and recommendations for improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or related field.
  • Proven experience in livestock management, preferably on a farm of similar scale.
  • Strong knowledge of animal husbandry, nutrition, and breeding principles.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with sustainable and humane livestock management practices.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
