Mechanical & Electrical Commissioning Managers – Data Centres
Location: London, UK
Rate: £500–£700 per day (Outside IR35)
Contract Length: 6–12 Months+
We are supporting leading engineering and construction organisations delivering major data centre and mission-critical infrastructure projects across London.
They are seeking experienced Mechanical and Electrical Commissioning Managers to oversee commissioning activities across complex data centre developments, ensuring all mechanical and electrical systems are fully tested, validated and handed over in line with project specifications and programme requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Manage mechanical and/or electrical commissioning activities from pre-commissioning through to final handover.
- Develop and oversee commissioning programmes, schedules, procedures and documentation.
- Coordinate commissioning engineers, subcontractors, vendors and client representatives.
- Oversee mechanical systems, including HVAC, chilled water, cooling systems and associated plant.
- Oversee electrical systems, including LV/HV distribution, switchgear, UPS systems, generators and critical power infrastructure.
- Manage testing, commissioning, fault finding, system validation and performance verification.
- Review commissioning procedures, test scripts, test packs and technical documentation.
- Coordinate Integrated Systems Testing (IST) to verify the interaction of critical building systems.
- Monitor commissioning milestones and ensure activities remain aligned with the overall project programme.
- Work closely with construction, engineering and project management teams to resolve technical issues.
- Ensure commissioning activities comply with health, safety, quality and client requirements.
- Support energisation, operational readiness, client demonstrations and final project handover.

Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Mechanical or Electrical Commissioning Manager on major data centre or mission-critical projects.
- Strong technical understanding of mechanical building services or electrical critical power systems.
- Experience managing commissioning programmes, subcontractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Experience with systems such as HVAC, chilled water, UPS, generators, switchgear or LV/HV distribution, depending on discipline.
- Understanding of commissioning procedures, testing methodologies, IST and project handover.
- Experience working with main contractors, MEP contractors, consultants and client stakeholders.
- Strong communication, coordination and problem-solving skills.
- Good understanding of health, safety, quality and commissioning compliance requirements.
- Relevant mechanical or electrical engineering qualifications preferred.
