About The Role
Due to ongoing expansion and investment, Leo Lynch is looking for a UK Engineering Lead to take senior technical ownership of engineering delivery across our UK project portfolio encompassing mechanical and electrical projects. This is a senior role for an experienced engineering professional who is a self-starter, well organised, and comfortable anticipating issues and developing appropriate contingency measures. The successful candidate will possess a blend of technical and leadership skills, with strong technical knowledge of mechanical engineering, project delivery, and people management. The role has direct oversight of the UK Engineering Team, including our Project Engineers, and is responsible for the technical standards, coordination, and professional development of that team across all live UK projects.
Location & Travel: Oxford - UK (with regular travel to UK project sites and to Leo Lynch's Irish offices)
Responsibilities
- Provide senior engineering leadership and technical oversight across all live UK projects, ensuring designs and installations meet client specification, regulatory requirements, and Leo Lynch technical standards.
- Act as the escalation point for engineering queries, technical risk, and design coordination issues raised by Project Engineers and site teams on UK projects.
- Review and approve key technical deliverables prepared by the UK Engineering Team, including design submissions, technical submittals, and mechanical installation drawings, prior to issue.
- Oversee the Engineering Materials Report (EMR) process across UK projects, ensuring material take-offs, lead-in periods, and field need rates are accurately tracked by Project Engineers.
- Provide senior oversight of BIM priorities and coordination, including isometrics generation and release, ensuring Project Engineers' outputs are accurate and issued on schedule.
- Oversee management of equipment and material procurement tracking across UK projects, supporting Project Engineers in resolving delivery and lead-time risks.
- Review sub-contract and supplier tender packages prepared by the UK Engineering Team, in conjunction with the Project QS function.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the UK engineering team, including structured one-to-ones, technical coaching, and support for professional accreditation (e.g. Chartered Engineer status).
- Support resource planning for the UK engineering function, identifying skills gaps and contributing to recruitment as the UK order book expands.
- Work closely with Project Directors and Project Managers to ensure engineering resource, programme, and technical risk are aligned across the UK project portfolio.
- Liaise directly with client engineering and technical teams, consultants, and design partners to represent Leo Lynch's engineering interests on UK projects.
- Ensure Works across UK projects are installed in accordance with project specifications and the Project QA plan, including oversight of site audits carried out by the engineering team.
- Champion consistent use of BIM, Navisworks, Primavera/Project planning software, and information management standards (e.g. ISO 19650) across UK projects.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement in engineering processes, value engineering, and constructability across the UK business.
- Ensure all engineering activity is delivered in line with health, safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
- Contribute to tender and pre-construction engineering input for prospective UK projects, including technical risk review and design strategy.
- Report on UK engineering performance, resourcing, and key technical risks to the Engineering Director and senior leadership team.

Candidate Requirements

- 10+ years' experience working with a recognised Mechanical/M&E contractor in process mechanical / pipework, including experience at Senior Engineer or Engineering Manager level.
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline; Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) is desirable.
- Proven track record delivering engineering on complex projects within pharmaceutical, life sciences, semiconductor, or similarly regulated sectors.
- Experience managing, mentoring, or line-managing engineering teams, including Project Engineers, with a genuine interest in developing others.
- Strong experience in design development from RIBA Stage 3 design to Stage 5.
- Strong working knowledge of UK construction processes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent organisational and project planning skills, with the ability to manage workload and prioritise across multiple concurrent UK projects.
- Excellent negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership, organisational, and time-management skills, with the ability to motivate people.
- Willingness to travel regularly to UK project sites and periodically to Irish offices.
