About the Role

At South West Water, we're committed to protecting one of our most valuable resources while delivering exceptional service to our customers and communities.

We're looking for a Water Loss Asset & Metering Technician to join our Drinking Water Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in helping us reduce water loss, improve network performance, and maintain the metering and telemetry assets that provide critical operational data across our water network.

Working across a designated operational area, with opportunities to support activities across the wider region, you'll install, maintain and optimise metering and telemetry equipment that supports leakage management, water balance reporting, and network efficiency. You'll be part of a collaborative team working to achieve industry-leading performance while developing specialist technical skills through a structured progression scheme.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Water Loss Asset & Metering Technician, you will:

  • Install, maintain and repair metering and telemetry assets across the water network.
  • Ensure accurate data collection to support leakage performance and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Improve the reliability and operability of District Metered Areas (DMAs), helping achieve key performance targets.
  • Support the installation and maintenance of flow meters and telemetry at service reservoirs, commercial sites, and treatment facilities.
  • Investigate recurring asset failures and help develop improvement programmes.
  • Work closely with Leakage Reporting and Leakage Delivery Teams to support water loss reduction initiatives.
  • Liaise with contractors to ensure repairs and maintenance activities are completed effectively and safely.
  • Support calibration programmes and ensure asset records are accurate and maintained.
  • Identify opportunities to trial and implement new metering and telemetry technologies.
  • Participate in standby rotas and provide operational support when required.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
