Mechanic | Another Place, The Machrie | Golf, Greens & Hotel Maintenance
Location: Islay, Scotland | PA42 7AN
Salary: 33,000 – 35,000
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Our Mechanic role
We’re looking for a responsible, efficient and skilled Mechanic to maintain, repair and ensure the smooth running of mechanical equipment across our hotel, estate grounds and Championship Links Golf Course.

Reporting to our Head Mechanic, you’ll help ensure our team, guests and members experience a safe, comfortable and compliant environment.
As our Mechanic, you’ll:
- Maintain and repair golf course equipment including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, company assets and small engines.
- Diagnose mechanical issues and carry out timely, cost-effective repairs.
- Develop and implement a digital preventative maintenance schedule.
- Maintain digital parts and supplies inventories and detailed maintenance records.
- Identify defects and worn components.
- Complete summer and winter servicing as directed by management.
- Conduct daily equipment performance checks on the course and make necessary adjustments.
- Keep the workshop clean, organised and safe.
- Ensure equipment meets current legislation and health and safety regulations.
- Provide basic machinery operation training when required.
- Keep up to date with suppliers, related trades and advances in greenkeeping materials, methods and machinery.
What you’ll bring
- 3–5 years’ experience in turf machinery or mechanical maintenance, preferably in a golf course setting.
- Proficiency in mechanical repair and maintenance, with knowledge of irrigation systems and turf care practices.
- Tractor driving and all-terrain vehicle experience.
- Certification in grinding equipment operation.
- Turf maintenance or related certification is desirable.
- First aid certification, or willingness to obtain it.
- Understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel and TurfKeeper.
- A valid driving licence and relevant driving experience.
- A positive, proactive attitude and ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and work in varied weather conditions.
- Previous island living experience, or equivalent, is desirable.
