Role Description
The Mechanic role is a full-time, on-site position located at the D & J AUTOS MOT CENTRE LTD. facility in Oldham. In this role, the mechanic will perform routine vehicle maintenance, diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, carry out repairs, and support MOT preparation and inspections. Daily tasks include conducting safety checks, replacing worn or damaged components, and ensuring all work meets regulatory and company standards. The mechanic will work with diagnostic tools and equipment, maintain accurate service records, and communicate clearly with the service team and customers about findings and recommended work. The role involves collaborating with colleagues to manage workload, uphold workshop cleanliness and safety, and contribute to a dependable and efficient service operation.

- Candidates should possess skills in general vehicle maintenance and maintenance & repair to handle routine servicing and corrective work.
- Candidates should possess skills in preventive maintenance to identify potential issues early and ensure vehicles remain safe and reliable.
- Candidates should possess skills in working with heavy equipment, including the safe operation of lifts, tools, and workshop machinery.
- Candidates should possess strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and performance problems efficiently.
- Relevant automotive qualifications or certifications (e.g., NVQ or equivalent) and experience in a workshop or MOT center environment are beneficial.
- Ability to read and interpret technical information, follow safety procedures, and use diagnostic tools and equipment effectively.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a customer-focused approach when explaining issues and recommended repairs.
