Mechanical and Electrical Supervisor
The Mechanical and Electrical Supervisor acts as the owner's technical and delivery representative for all mechanical and electrical systems associated with energy infrastructure projects, accountable for providing technical assurance, programme certainty, and supply-chain oversight to ensure contractors and suppliers deliver the scope safely within compliance and in accordance with project requirements.
Manages and coordinates all mechanical and electrical construction works and ensures that projects are completed safely, on time and on budget.
Responsibilities
- Act as the single point of focus for mechanical and electrical systems on behalf of the client and manage control of the scope across balance of plant, BESS mechanical systems, and interconnecting infrastructure.
- Ensure contractors and supply chain deliver in line with employer requirements, relevant standards, project technical and safety expectations, and programme requirements.
- Provide technical oversight of mechanical and electrical designs produced by designers, reviewing key deliverables including layouts, calculations, material specifications, and support arrangements.
- Support in defining procurement strategies for scope, review scopes of work and contractor obligations, and provide technical input to tender evaluations and contract awards.
- Act as the client's representative for forward freighting and expediting activities, establishing governance processes to track equipment manufacturing, factory acceptance testing, shipping, and site delivery.
- Provide assurance of mechanical piping programme performance by reviewing and challenging contractor schedules for procurement, manufacture, delivery, installation and commissioning, and identify risks to critical path activities.
- Provide client representation during construction and installation activities, monitor compliance with approved designs and safety systems, and manage interfaces between contractors, balance-of-plant contractors, and other project disciplines.
- Implement and enforce health and safety regulations related to mechanical piping work, conduct risk assessments, ensure proper use of personal protective equipment, and promote safe work practices to minimise risk of accidents and injuries.
- Carry out regular inspections and quality control checks in accordance with the Inspection and Test Plan, identify deficiencies or non-compliance, and provide guidance or corrective measures to rectify issues.
- Ensure contractors keep accurate records in line with the Inspection and Test Plan and site procedures, and ensure completeness and accuracy of as-built documentation and operational manuals.

Essential skills and experience

- Demonstrable experience of mechanical and electrical design, installation or commissioning activities within the energy, utilities or industrial sectors.
- Educated to a minimum HNC level in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent professional qualification.
- Robust technical mechanical or electric engineering knowledge within the power or energy sector.
- Flexible and organised to manage workload to meet deadlines, with analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to work proactively on own or as part of a team.
- Full UK driving licence and right to work within the UK without limitation.
- ECS Gold Card or equivalent
- SSSTS (SMSTS preferred)
- NG Competent Person
Desirable
- Valid safety management competency such as CSCS or SMSTS qualification.
- Working knowledge of completion management software such as GoTechnology or equivalent project tracking systems.
- Knowledge of battery energy storage systems, gas peaking plant or similar energy infrastructure construction.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and SharePoint for documentation and team collaboration.
Qualifications and experience
- Minimum mechanical engineering degree or HNC level qualification, or equivalent professional experience within power generation or similar industries.
