Role Overview

We're currently looking to recruit an experienced mechanical engineer ideally with experience of managing an extensive asset register to join our Southampton port as a Mechanical Asset Manager. You'll be working in an autonomous role bridging the gap between our project team and engineering team, you should have a solid understanding of asset lifecycle and will be responsible for driving TotEx investment plans (up to 5 years). We have a wide range of Mechanical Assets across the Southampton port, including cranes, airbridges, pumping stations and industrial doors, and the ability to prioritise project and maintenance works is vital.

Accountabilities

  • Enhance Performance: Enhance the performance, efficiency, and effectiveness of assets to meet organisational strategy, in multiple asset types.
  • Lifecycle Asset Ownership: Define clear lifecycle asset ownership from procurement to disposal including any refurbishment requirements.
  • Monitor Performance: Monitor asset performance through internal audits and management reviews to obtain data, to gain increased asset availability, reliability and utilisation.
  • Cost Savings: Achieving cost savings through informed asset management decisions, thereby improving the cost-effectiveness of asset ownership.
  • Investment Plans: Accountable to produce TotEx (OpEx and CapEx) investment plans (5yr - 1yr), underpinned by robust asset criticality and condition knowledge.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Manage and audit compliance with legal, regulatory, and statutory requirements related to asset management.
  • Stakeholder Confidence: Building confidence among stakeholders through transparent, systematic management of assets in line with organisational objectives and long term asset strategies.
  • Strategic Asset Management Plan: Work with Group Technical Authority to develop and embed a Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP).
  • Individual Asset Management Plans: Develop Individual Asset Management Plans (IAMP’s) for assets starting with the most business critical.

Skills & Experience

  • Education: Educated to degree level within an associated engineering discipline.
  • Professional Status: Chartered Engineer or working towards.
  • Legislation and Policy: Detailed and working knowledge of external legislation and internal policy requirements.
  • Strategic Planning: Proven record of accomplishment in strategic planning in this area of expertise.
  • ISO 55000: Knowledge and experience of ISO 55000 (2024) (Ideal).
  • Portfolio Asset Management: Experience of portfolio asset management (Ideal).
  • Interpersonal Skills: The job holder needs excellent interpersonal, communication and relational abilities. Understands the link between engagement and performance.
  • Continuous Improvement: Strong drive for continuous improvement - never satisfied with the status quo.
  • Driving Licence: Full UK driving licence.
