An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Associate Director to join a leading engineering consultancy in Newcastle. This senior leadership position is ideal for an ambitious mechanical engineering professional with a strong background in Data Centre, Mission-Critical, or MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Public Health) design and delivery.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading multidisciplinary design teams, driving technical excellence, developing client relationships, and supporting the growth of a high-performing engineering business. You will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of complex projects while helping shape strategy, mentoring talented engineers, and contributing to business development initiatives.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the mechanical engineering design and delivery of major projects across the data centre, mission-critical, commercial, and industrial sectors.
- Manage project teams to ensure the successful delivery of work to programme, budget, and quality requirements.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance throughout all project stages, from feasibility through to construction and commissioning.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and key stakeholders.
- Support business development activities, including client engagement, bids, proposals, and project interviews.
- Drive innovation, sustainable design solutions, and engineering best practice.
- Oversee resource planning and project performance within the team.
- Mentor, develop, and support engineers at all levels.
- Ensure compliance with relevant UK standards, regulations, and quality management procedures.
- Contribute to the strategic growth and development of the Newcastle office and wider business.

What You’ll Bring
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant experience within a consulting engineering environment.
- Proven experience delivering Data Centre, Mission-Critical, or large-scale MEP projects.
- Strong technical expertise in mechanical building services design.
- Demonstrable leadership experience managing engineering teams and project delivery.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Commercial awareness with experience managing project budgets and financial performance.
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards chartership.
