Mechanical Build Technician
Location: Kidlington, Oxfordshire
Employment: Full-time

Electrogenic is looking for an experienced Mechanical Build Technician to join our growing team in Kidlington, Oxfordshire.
We design and build some of the world’s most exciting electric vehicles, from beautifully engineered classic-car conversions to cutting-edge prototypes and specialist projects. Our work combines traditional vehicle engineering with modern electric powertrain technology — and every vehicle we build is different.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working with their tools, solving problems and seeing a vehicle develop from a stripped shell into a fully functioning finished product.
The role
As a Mechanical Build Technician, you will be responsible for the mechanical build and assembly of bespoke electric vehicles, working closely with our engineering and production teams.
Your work will include:
- Removing existing ICE powertrains and associated vehicle systems.
- Installing electric powertrain systems, including motors, gearboxes, inverters and battery systems.
- Installing and integrating cooling, heating, HVAC, power steering and other vehicle systems.
- Mechanical fabrication, assembly and modification of vehicles and components.
- Building prototype and low-volume production vehicles to a high standard.
- Following engineering drawings, build instructions and technical documentation.
- Working closely with engineers to resolve build issues and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Carrying out inspection, testing and quality checks throughout the build process.
- Producing accurate build records and reporting issues or improvements back to the engineering team.
- Supporting the development and continual improvement of our vehicle build processes.
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe workshop environment.

What we're looking for
We're looking for someone with a strong background in automotive or specialist vehicle build who is equally comfortable working from engineering drawings and getting hands-on with a vehicle.
You should have:
- At least 3 years' experience in a vehicle build, assembly or similar engineering environment.
- Strong mechanical and practical engineering skills.
- Experience working with engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Experience assembling and modifying vehicles or complex mechanical systems.
- A methodical approach to build quality and attention to detail.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to develop practical solutions.
- The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a wider engineering team.
- Good communication skills and a proactive attitude.
- A genuine interest in vehicles and engineering.
Experience that would be advantageous

The following would be highly beneficial:
- Experience working with classic, performance or low-volume vehicles.
- EV or high-voltage vehicle experience.
- Fabrication and welding skills.
- Experience with vehicle HVAC and cooling systems.
- Machining or general workshop skills.
- Experience working from CAD models and detailed engineering drawings.
- Previous experience working in a prototype, motorsport or specialist vehicle environment.
- Familiarity with structured build processes, quality systems and 5S.
- Experience using Microsoft Office and project/task-management systems such as Asana or Jira.
