Role Summary
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Construction Manager to lead the mechanical construction delivery of a major Data Centre / Mission Critical project in London.
This is a senior, site-based position responsible for the successful delivery of the mechanical scope from mobilisation and first-fix installation through to mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and final handover.
The successful candidate will have strong practical experience of data centre mechanical systems and the ability to lead large mechanical subcontractors and multidisciplinary site teams while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, programme and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the mechanical construction delivery across the project.
- Manage mechanical supervisors, subcontractors, specialist vendors and site teams.
- Develop and implement the mechanical construction strategy in line with the overall project programme and commissioning requirements.
- Oversee installation of chilled water and glycol systems, CRAH/CRAC units, AHUs, pumps, pump skids, pipework, valves, ventilation and associated mechanical infrastructure.
- Coordinate mechanical works with Electrical, CSA, Controls/BMS and Commissioning teams.
- Manage installation and coordination of plant rooms, risers, data halls, roof areas and external plant.
- Ensure mechanical works are delivered safely, to specification, to programme and to the required quality standards.
- Review drawings, specifications, BIM models and technical submissions for constructability, access, maintainability and installation sequencing.
- Identify and resolve coordination issues, clashes, technical queries and site constraints.
- Coordinate builder’s work openings, equipment bases, supports, penetrations and access requirements.
- Monitor subcontractor performance, manpower, productivity, quality and safety.
- Maintain a strong site presence and provide clear progress reporting to the project leadership team.

Programme & Planning
- Develop and manage six-week lookahead programmes and weekly/two-week construction plans.
- Prepare manpower forecasts and monitor labour requirements against programme.
- Track area and system completion and ensure activities remain aligned with mechanical completion and commissioning milestones.
- Identify constraints relating to access, design, procurement, resources and logistics.
- Develop and implement recovery plans where required.
- Coordinate construction activities with energisation, mechanical completion, commissioning and IST requirements.
- Challenge subcontractors on programme, productivity and delivery performance.

Engineering & BIM Coordination
- Work from approved construction information and ensure mechanical installations are fully coordinated.
- Review BIM models and drawings for buildability, access and maintenance requirements.
- Identify clashes with electrical containment, busbar, structure, raised floors, ceilings and fire protection systems.
- Coordinate openings, equipment bases, supports, penetrations and maintenance access.
- Raise and manage technical queries and ensure timely resolution of site engineering issues.
