The Role

We are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Contracts Manager to join an established M&E contractor based in Dartford, Kent.

This is a senior delivery position responsible for overseeing multiple mechanical projects from pre-construction through to completion and handover. Projects will predominantly cover commercial, education, healthcare and public-sector environments across London, Kent and the South East.

The successful candidate will have a strong mechanical building services background and proven experience managing multiple projects, site teams and subcontractors while maintaining responsibility for programme, commercial performance, quality and client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of multiple mechanical building services projects.
  • Manage projects from pre-construction and procurement through installation, commissioning and final handover.
  • Oversee Project Managers, Site Managers, Supervisors, subcontractors and specialist contractors.
  • Manage mechanical packages including HVAC, heating, chilled water, ventilation, domestic water, drainage and associated plant.
  • Develop and monitor project programmes, ensuring key milestones and completion dates are achieved.
  • Work closely with commercial teams to manage project costs, variations, procurement and profitability.
  • Review drawings, specifications and technical submissions, identifying potential design and coordination issues.
  • Manage procurement schedules to ensure plant, materials and subcontract packages are secured in line with programme.
  • Attend and lead client, progress and internal project meetings.
  • Maintain strong relationships with main contractors, consultants, clients and supply-chain partners.
  • Ensure projects are delivered to the required health & safety, quality and compliance standards.
  • Oversee testing, commissioning, snagging, O&M documentation and final handover.
  • Report to senior management on project performance, programme, commercial position, risks and opportunities.

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Contracts Manager within an M&E/building services contractor.
  • Strong mechanical engineering or mechanical trade background.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent knowledge of mechanical building services and MEP coordination.
  • Experience across education, healthcare, commercial or public-sector projects would be advantageous.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including budgets, variations and cost control.
  • Confident managing Project Managers, Site Managers and subcontract teams.
  • Excellent client-facing and communication skills.
  • Good understanding of construction programmes, procurement and commissioning.
  • SMSTS and relevant CSCS qualification.
  • Full UK driving licence.
