Are you mechanically minded and looking to develop your skills within a world-class manufacturing environment?

We're looking for individuals with a mechanical background who are eager to learn, develop, and build a long-term career in engineering. Whether your experience comes from automotive, HGV, agricultural engineering, plant maintenance, manufacturing, the military, or another mechanical trade, we'll provide the training, mentoring and hands-on experience needed to develop into a competent Mechanical Fitter.

This is an excellent opportunity to join our Engineering team and gain valuable experience working on a wide range of industrial equipment while following a structured training and development programme.

The Role

As a Mechanical Tradesperson (Trainee Mechanical Fitter), you will work alongside experienced engineers and fitters to develop the skills and knowledge required to maintain, repair and improve the reliability of our production equipment.

Through practical, on-the-job training, mentoring and development support, you'll gain experience across a variety of maintenance activities while building the competencies required to progress within our Engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with planned preventative maintenance activities across the site.
  • Learn to diagnose and repair mechanical faults on production equipment.
  • Support breakdown response activities to help minimise downtime.
  • Assist with the installation, maintenance and improvement of machinery and plant systems.
  • Develop knowledge of conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, pneumatics and hydraulic systems.
  • Support engineering projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and update systems as required.
  • Follow all health, safety and environmental procedures.
  • Complete a structured training and development programme designed to support progression to Mechanical Fitter competency.

What We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from candidates who have:

  • A mechanical background gained through employment, apprenticeship, college studies, military service or vocational training.
  • Experience working on HGVs, cars, agricultural machinery, plant equipment, manufacturing equipment or other mechanical systems.
  • Good practical problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.
  • A positive attitude and enthusiasm for developing a career in engineering.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A strong commitment to safety and high standards of workmanship.

Experience or knowledge of bearings, gearboxes, pumps, hydraulics or pneumatics would be advantageous but is not essential.
