🚀 MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER | £40,000–£50,000 DOE | SURREY / HAMPSHIRE BORDER
Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys designing precision-engineered products and seeing your work go from concept to reality?
We're working with an established British precision engineering manufacturer that is expanding its New Product Development (NPD) team and is looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join them on a permanent basis.
This is a genuinely hands-on design role, giving you the opportunity to work on precision, high-speed rotating machinery and take projects through the full engineering lifecycle — from initial concept and 3D CAD modelling through to detailed drawings, technical documentation and manufacture.
🔧 THE ROLE
You'll be involved in:
- Mechanical design and 3D CAD modelling
- Producing detailed, production-ready engineering drawings
- Developing and maintaining high-quality technical documentation
- Supporting new product development from concept through to manufacture
- Designing precision components and assemblies for high-speed rotating equipment
- Working with close-tolerance bores, seals, bearings, shafts and other precision components
- Solving practical engineering challenges and supporting design improvements
- Working closely with manufacturing and other teams to successfully bring designs into production

- Fluid Power / Pneumatics / Hydraulics
- Vane, gear or piston-type actuators

- Rotating shafts and precision assemblies
- Pumps, compressors, gearboxes or small precision motors
- Relevant Industrial Sectors
- Experience within sectors such as:
- Water & wastewater
- Oil & gas
- Chemical / pharmaceutical
- Power generation
- Materials handling
- Food & beverage
- Experience within sectors such as:
👉 You don't need experience across all of the above. We're primarily looking for a strong Mechanical Design Engineer with solid design fundamentals, good 3D CAD skills and experience working with precision-engineered products.
👇 WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Around 5 years' mechanical design experience
- Strong 3D CAD skills — Solid Edge preferred
- Experience with Siemens NX or similar CAD packages will also be considered
- Experience producing detailed engineering drawings to precision tolerances
- Good understanding of mechanical components, assemblies and manufacturing processes
- Comfortable working independently within a fast-paced NPD environment
- A practical, hands-on approach to engineering and problem-solving
- Someone who takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality design work
