Mechanical Design Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established engineering manufacturer, designing innovative electrical equipment for industrial applications.
Salary: £38,000 plus OTE / sales bonus
Location: Leicester
Hours: 37.75 hours per week – Monday to Thursday 8.15am–5.00pm, Friday 8.15am–1.00pm (some flexibility may be available)

About the role
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established engineering team, working on the design and development of specialist electrical equipment used across a range of industrial applications.
You will take designs from initial requirements through to manufacture, producing detailed 3D models, engineering drawings and supporting documentation. Working closely with colleagues across Engineering, Production, Sales and Test, you will help optimise designs and resolve manufacturing and assembly challenges.

Key responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing design requirements and producing calculations and production documentation.
- Creating 3D models, particularly sheet metal parts and assemblies.
- Producing engineering drawings and Bills of Materials for manufacture.
- Undertaking detailed mechanical design, simulation and design verification testing.
- Reviewing and approving design information.
- Supporting research, development and product testing.
- Conducting technical investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Providing technical support to Production, Sales, Service and Customer Support.
- Ensuring designs meet relevant regulatory, quality and industry standards.
- Managing projects and workloads to meet agreed deadlines and budgets.
About you
You will be an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and ideally some knowledge of electrical engineering.
You will need:
- Significant mechanical design experience, ideally involving electrical equipment or machinery.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
- Strong 3D CAD skills, ideally Autodesk Inventor.
- Familiarity with UKCA, CE marking and DFMEA.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- A collaborative approach and ability to work effectively with engineering, manufacturing and customer-facing teams.

Experience designing sheet metal constructions, structural analysis using FEA/CFD tools such as Ansys, or production tooling would be advantageous.
About the organisation
You will be joining a long-established UK engineering manufacturer with more than 100 years of experience designing and manufacturing specialist electrical equipment. Its products are supplied to contractors, OEMs and end users across the UK and international markets, supporting sectors including power generation and distribution, industrial automation, marine, telecoms and rail.
Other roles you may have experience of could include: Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, Design Engineer, CAD Design Engineer, Product Design Engineer, Development Engineer, Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer, Sheet Metal Design Engineer, Engineering Design Engineer or Mechanical Development Engineer.
