Contract Mechanical Design Engineer – Solid Edge

Contract Mechanical Design Advanced Engineering Solid Edge

We are currently seeking an experienced Contract Mechanical Design Engineer to join a specialist engineering team working on complex, high–performance systems within the advanced energy and technology sector.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands–on mechanical designer with strong Solid Edge experience to contribute to technically challenging projects involving complex mechanical assemblies, cryogenic systems, superconducting technologies, test equipment and associated engineering infrastructure.

The Role

As a Contract Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing mechanical components and assemblies from concept through to manufacture, working closely with engineers, technical specialists, manufacturing teams and suppliers.

You will use Solid Edge as a key design tool, producing accurate 3D models and detailed engineering drawings that communicate design intent, manufacturing requirements and operational information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and develop 3D mechanical models and engineering drawings using Solid Edge.
  • Produce detailed drawings suitable for manufacture, assembly and inspection.
  • Develop mechanical components and complex assemblies from initial concept through to delivery.
  • Lead or contribute to mechanical design activities across engineering projects and programmes.
  • Work with engineering stakeholders and subject matter experts to define requirements and develop practical design solutions.
  • Carry out engineering calculations, design verification and analysis, including FEA where appropriate.
  • Work closely with manufacturing teams, technicians and suppliers to resolve technical issues and optimise designs.
  • Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes, including advanced and emerging technologies.
  • Participate in design reviews and ensure actions are followed through to completion.
  • Produce technical documentation, calculations, reports and engineering procedures.
  • Ensure safety, reliability, manufacturability and maintainability are considered throughout the design process.
  • Work within appropriate engineering standards, regulations and design codes.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
