As a result of continued success and a planned programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced Lead / Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to complement their established and successful team and deliver innovative special purpose automation machinery projects.
Role Overview
Based near Leicester and tasked with both designing and overseeing an array of special purpose machine projects from order acceptance to customer handover, the successful Senior Mechanical Design Engineer candidate will be responsible for the design, detailing, and successful delivery of multiple projects. This role requires effective communication with customers, suppliers, and team members, working as part of a team dedicated to delivering projects on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical design and detailing functions for multiple projects using 3D CAD within the allocated time.
- Arrange Design Reviews to ensure designs meet overall requirements and are robust, reliable, and within budget.
- Obtain Design Pass Off by the customer on time and ensure BOMs are produced on time and within budget.
- Negotiate with external suppliers for cost-efficient materials in line with project budgets and timing plans.
- Assist the electrical design process by communicating clearly and effectively.
- Compile a build folder and communicate build details to machine tool fitters.
- Provide direction and support to fitters, electricians, and other engineers within the team.
- Undertake visits to customer sites to fully understand customer requirements and obtain necessary measurements.
- Document and communicate all requirements to the customer and internal staff.
- Assess and improve design concepts with the team at the sales quotation stage to reduce risks, costs, lead times.
- Identify key risks and assist in compiling plans for trials to reduce them.
- Obtain all parts, samples, and drawings necessary in advance to ensure accuracy and compliance with the design phase.
- Conduct project reviews with customers and report on the status of each project.
- Construct and maintain a comprehensive Technical Construction File (TCF) including manuals, risk assessments, mechanical parts list, and drawings.
- Carry out machine risk assessments during the design phase to ensure Machinery Directive requirements are met.
- Lead projects during the development and installation phases with proactive and timely delivery of problem fixes.
- Ensure all H and S and safety rules, guidelines, and policies are understood and adhered.

Requirements
- Relevant experience and expertise in mechanical design and automation systems.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

- Problem-solving skills and ability to manage risks effectively.
