Mechanical Design Engineer – Data Centres
Central London (Hybrid) | Freelance Contract | 6–9 Months
Mechanical Design Engineer required for an established engineering consultancy delivering high-profile data centre projects across the UK and Europe.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a technically strong design team, taking ownership of mechanical building services design across the full project lifecycle. You'll be involved from initial concept and feasibility through detailed design, technical coordination, construction support, and project completion.
The role offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement, with 1–3 days per week based in a Central London office, alongside remote working.

The Role
- Mechanical Design Engineer
- Data Centre project
- Full project lifecycle involvement (RIBA Stages 1–7)
- Design and coordination of mechanical building services systems
- Liaising with multidisciplinary design teams, clients and contractors
- Hybrid working (1–3 days per week in Central London ideally)
- Freelance contract
- 6–9 month duration
- Immediate start available
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer within building services.
- Previous data centre project experience is essential.
- Experience delivering projects through all design stages.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, cooling systems, and mechanical infrastructure within mission-critical environments.
- Comfortable working within multidisciplinary consultancy teams.
- Proficiency with industry-standard design software and relevant UK design standards.
