Introduction

Acorn by Synergie is recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established design team within a successful manufacturing business in the Exeter area.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, Design Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or Product Design Engineer with a passion for developing high–quality manufactured products.

Working closely with design, manufacturing, and operational teams, you'll support new product development, mechanical design, product improvement, and design optimisation, taking projects from initial concept through to production release.

Key Duties

  • Create detailed mechanical designs and technical drawings for new and existing products.
  • Support new product development from initial concept through to production release.
  • Work collaboratively with manufacturing teams to improve product performance, quality, and efficiency.
  • Produce engineering documentation and technical specifications to support production activities.
  • Identify opportunities for mechanical design optimisation and continuous improvement.
  • Develop practical and commercially viable engineering solutions within a manufacturing environment.
  • Apply Design for Manufacture principles throughout the product development process.
  • Consider engineering tolerances and practical product design requirements when developing solutions.

Requirements

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification, or a proven mechanical engineering background.
  • Experience using 3D CAD software within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture principles.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and associated manufacturing processes.
  • Experience producing detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Understanding of engineering tolerances and practical product design considerations.
  • Strong problem–solving skills and a methodical approach to technical challenges.
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Experience working on new product introduction projects.
  • Familiarity with Solid Edge.
  • Exposure to risk–based design methodologies and product validation processes.
  • Experience working within a quality–focused manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of production, purchasing, or supply chain interactions within manufacturing.
