We are looking for Mechanical Design Engineers with checking experience to be based at our customers (Defence) Belfast UK office. A Hybrid working arrangement of 3 days onsite per week and 2 days working from home is acceptable.

Rates are negotiable and dependant upon experience. Role is outside IR35.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent technical checking of engineering drawings and 3D models to ensure they are correct, manufacturable, and fully compliant to BS8888:2020 Technical Product Specification.
  • Check mechanical engineering drawings to BS8888 including dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, surface texture, and welding symbols.
  • Verify 3D CAD models in CATIA V5 and/or Creo against 2D drawing packs and design intent.
  • Ensure compliance with DEF-STAN 00-970, JSP 886, MOD standards and company procedures.
  • Raise Design Queries, ECNs and NCs in Windchill and support closure with design engineers.
  • Support design reviews, FAI, and configuration management.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and quality in a secure site environment.

  • A good Engineering theory understanding and a good grasp of Engineering principles.
  • Able to work to a high standard with minimum supervision on occasions whilst also being able to work collectively as part of a group.
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and to project gateway requirements.
  • A high level of problem-solving capability – and the ability to take up multiple tasks at any given time. The capability to juggle several duties and be able to provide regular progress updates at any given time.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • A good understanding of Office Packages – and use of Excel for data recording, manipulating analytical reports and documentation.
  • A keenness towards analytical data interpretation, reviewing numerical information, and using various information in reporting, presenting, and collating significant volume of data.

Experience

  • Previous delegated checker with experience of checking mechanical designs.
  • CAD - CATIA V5 & CREO.
  • Enovia experience.
  • Detailed understanding of BS8888, GD&T etc.
