Intermediate Mechanical Engineer | Building Services Design

London | Permanent, full time | £45,000

My client is a well-established principal contractor with more than 20 years of delivering construction projects across leisure, commercial, residential, heritage, education, healthcare, and public buildings.

They are looking for an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join their building services design team. You will have senior engineers to learn from, while owning your own areas of design and running smaller projects yourself. Working inside a contractor also means you stay close to the build and see your designs through to site.

The role

  • Develop mechanical building services designs from concept through to detailed design
  • Carry out heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic water, and drainage calculations
  • Size and select plant, equipment, ductwork, and pipework
  • Produce and review drawings, schematics, specifications, and equipment schedules
  • Coordinate with electrical, public health, architectural, and structural designs
  • Attend design team meetings, coordination workshops, and site inspections
  • Review contractor technical submissions and respond to RFIs
  • Assist with surveys of existing buildings and prepare reports

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
