Mechanical Design Engineer (Intermediate & Senior)

OCSC, a multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking Intermediate and Senior Mechanical Design Engineers to join its Building Services team.

Location: London or Birmingham (Hybrid working model)
Sponsorship: Not available

Role

As part of an integrated multidisciplinary project team, you will be responsible for the design and specification of mechanical building services systems for a wide range of projects. Opportunities are available at both Intermediate and Senior level, with responsibilities aligned to your experience.

Requirements

Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer

  • Third level degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar building services design role.
  • Previous UK or Ireland project experience is essential.
  • Strong technical ability and understanding of current engineering standards, including Building Regulations, CIBSE/BSRIA Guides and IS/EN Standards.
  • Experience in the design and specification of mechanical building services systems, including drainage, water services, heating, cooling, ventilation and controls.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD and Navisworks.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

  • Third level degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
  • 7+ years' experience in mechanical building services design, ideally within a design consultancy.
  • Previous UK or Ireland project experience.
  • Strong technical ability and thorough understanding of current engineering standards, including Building Regulations, CIBSE Codes and IS/EN Standards.
  • Extensive experience in the design and specification of mechanical building services systems, including drainage, water services, heating, cooling, ventilation and Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Experience working with clients, contractors and vendors.
  • Experience with AutoCAD; Revit and IES experience advantageous.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.
  • Strong leadership, communication and project management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

Intermediate

  • Assist with the design and specification of mechanical building services systems in accordance with current regulations and design standards.
  • Work as part of an integrated project design team.
  • Assist with the management of engineering tasks on projects.
  • Support construction-stage activities, including site inspections, technical submittals and responding to RFIs.

Senior

  • Lead the design and specification of mechanical engineering solutions for building projects.
  • Work directly with clients to define project requirements and develop technical solutions.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project design teams.
  • Manage pre-construction engineering activities, including services coordination, tender documentation, specifications and equipment schedules.
  • Lead project delivery during construction, including site inspections, technical submittals and RFIs.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers.
