Mechanical Design Engineer
Totton Southampton
£45 - 55k plus 7.5% discretionary bonus
We are recruiting exclusively for Rigging Projects in Totton who now have an opening for a Mechanical Design Engineer. Rigging Projects design and manufactures premium bespoke deck hardware for the global superyacht industry. Their products are installed on some of the world's most impressive vessels, where engineering performance and aesthetic quality are equally important. About the Role as Mechanical Design Engineer
If you're an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer looking for something beyond high-volume manufacturing or repetitive design work, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for. You'll have genuine ownership of your work, influence product development from concept through to manufacture, and collaborate with a highly skilled engineering team that values innovation, quality and attention to detail.
Responsibilities as Mechanical Design Engineer
- Leading both new product development and existing engineering projects.
- Designing mechanical components and assemblies from concept through to manufacture.
- Producing high-quality 3D CAD models and fully detailed 2D engineering drawings.
- Applying GD&T principles and effective tolerancing strategies to ensure robust, manufacturable designs.
- Carrying out engineering calculations and FEA analysis where required.
- Working closely with production teams to optimise designs for manufacture and assembly.
- Supporting prototype builds, testing and continuous product improvement.
- Collaborating across engineering and manufacturing to deliver exceptional products.

Required Skills and Experience as Mechanical Design Engineer
- Experience within a high-performance engineering environment such as marine, motorsport, aerospace or another precision engineering sector.
- Strong experience creating 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings.
- An excellent understanding of GD&T, tolerancing and mechanical assembly design.
- Experience taking products through the complete design lifecycle from concept to manufacture.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to engineering quality.
- The confidence to work independently while contributing to a collaborative engineering team.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced engineering environment.
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
