Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Blackburn with Darwen
Salary: £40,000 to £48,000 plus annual bonus (dependent on experience)
A role where precision matters
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer who takes genuine pride in producing accurate, detailed engineering designs and understands that every drawing has a direct impact on manufacture, assembly, and project delivery.
This is a role for someone with exceptional attention to detail. You will produce manufacturing information that is relied upon by both internal teams, external fabrication partners, and customer delivery where accuracy is critical. The depth and quality of your drawings will influence how components are manufactured, ensuring they are right first time and minimizing costly delays, rework, and production issues.
The Role
As a Project Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take responsibility for the mechanical design and engineering documentation required to deliver customer projects from cradle to grave. Working closely and cross-functionally across all teams, ensuring every design is practical, accurate, and ready for manufacture.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
