Mechanical Design Engineer
Start Date: ASAP
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with strong design and analysis capabilities to join our growing team. This is a hands-on role, offering opportunities to take ownership of projects from concept through to manufacture, while contributing to innovation, product development, and technical leadership within the business.
This is not a graduate role unless significant industrial experience has been achieved.
Required Knowledge & Skills (Desirable, not all essential)
- Experience: ~5 years in industry with extensive understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace, or related discipline.
- CAD: Proficiency with an industry-standard CAD package (SolidWorks preferred).
- Industry background: Automotive, commercial vehicles, or heavy industry equipment experience desirable.
- Project leadership: Proven ability to lead and deliver work packages independently.
- Product development: Experience in design, validation, and release of engineered products.
- Design skills: Ability to design from first principles, including hand calculations and basic analysis (mechanical, structural, or electrical systems). The correct application and understanding of GD&T.
- Engineering standards: Awareness of industry regulations and ability to apply them to design work.
- FEA & CFD: The ability to utilise FEA packages both inside of 3D modelling software and with the use of Ansys is highly advantageous and a basic understanding of computational fluid dynamics in Ansys is desirable.
- Other: Full UK driving licence and own vehicle.

Roles & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will:
- Lead and take ownership of work packages from concept through to manufacture, including design specifications, customer interaction, and project management.
- Deliver high-quality product designs with consideration for manufacturability, safety, cost, and performance.
- Conduct and support FMEA activities.
- Support and mentor apprentices as part of our apprenticeship scheme.
- Collaborate with the manufacturing team and support shop floor activities when required.
- Drive compliance with quality, health & safety, and environmental standards.
- Manage and monitor engineering change notifications and corrective action processes.
- Develop and execute test and development plans.
- Contribute to the development of new innovations and continuous improvement.
