An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer / Product Design Engineer to join a growing product development team within a well-established UK manufacturing business in West Birmingham. This role offers the chance to play a key part in the design and development of innovative mechanical products, taking projects from initial concept through to production.
Working within a collaborative engineering environment, you will be responsible for developing robust, high-quality solutions that meet customer and market requirements while driving continuous product improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design and product design projects from concept through to manufacture.
- The Mechanical Design Engineer / Product Design Engineer will develop innovative mechanical product designs and bring them to production readiness.
- Apply engineering expertise to optimise product performance, functionality, and manufacturability.
- The Mechanical Design Engineer / Product Design Engineer will create and test prototypes to validate product concepts.
- Conduct engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, and technical assessments to support design decisions.
- Utilise testing, simulation, and validation methods to ensure product reliability and performance.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver successful project outcomes.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation throughout the product development process.
- Present technical solutions and project progress to senior stakeholders.

- Degree or HND qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 4 years' experience in a design engineering role within a manufacturing environment, ideally designing consumer-based products or similar.
- Strong mechanical engineering or product design background.
- Experience in Solidworks is preferable - open to other 3D CAD software experience.
- Experience designing products for injection moulding is essential. Any experience using other manufacturing methods such as Die Casting, sheet metal, etc., is desirable.
- Proven ability to take products through the full design lifecycle.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and presentation abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Exposure to CFD and/or FEA analysis tools would be advantageous.
- Experience with flow control, valves, or fluid handling products would be beneficial.
